El Cid Cozumel??

Last year we spent the day at Nachi Cocom and enjoyed it. However, I notice that Carnival has a new excursion listed, at El Cid Cozumel. From the Carnival web site:

Enjoy a full day of snorkeling at a beautiful resort nestled on the southern shores of Cozumel.

On this excursion you will:

  • You’ll be greeted at the pier and transferred via taxi to El Cid Cozumel, located just minutes from the pier.
  • Relax in your lounge chair at the beach with a refreshing drink or take a swim in the pool.
  • Just a few steps down into the ocean, you can snorkel in the beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
  • A buffet lunch will be served at the beach with food for all ages and preferences.
  • After an enjoyable day at the beach, you’ll be transferred back to the pier.

Note: Snorkel gear, buffet lunch, domestic open bar, and soft drinks are included.

If the taxi fare is included in the price quoted, then it's comparable to Nachi Cocom. Has anyone been there? How is it? Is cab fare included in the excursion fee?

El Cid is a small resort located just north of the international pier. IMHO you could find a better excursion.

You can see El Cid from the ship. I also went to Nachi and considered El Cid. When I saw what the beach looked like from the ship, I was so glad I didn't go there. It looks like a nice facility for people who don't care about a secluded beach and want the convenience of being close to the ship.

We were in Cozumel on a cruise the 1st week of October. We were looking for something relaxing to do, so we ended up at the El-Cid. We did not book it thru anyone! From the cruise port turn to your left walk less than 2 blocks and it will be on the left. No need for a taxi. We walked into the lobby and paid $40 per person for the all inclusive for the day with all included. It was a great time. They have a small pool and a hot tub, small beach, with great snorkling just steps into the ocean, changing rooms and bathrooms, bar and buffet It is not very private and the view is of the cruise ship. However the staff is wonderful, the food and drinks were very good. You grab a chase lounge on the beach and a server will bring you all that you need food, drinks. If you want something within walking distance of the ship to relax and not have to worry about being hassled with your food and drinks included this is the place.

Does the $40 include snorkel equipment? Is there shade available at the beach? How many people were in your group? (we have 6, didn't know if they encouraged cruisers or would be put off by a crowd coming in) Was the resort crowded? Sounds like it would be a fit for our group. Some snorkel, some don't, some drink a lot of beer, some not so much. We were thinking about going to the Money Bar. Anyone been, and how does this compare?
