didn't happen last december, on the spirit or on the star in '06...if they are doing that, it's new.

from one review, it wasn't ALL the time, seemed that they had times listed in the daily?

Some nights the drinks are free during certain hours. Other nights free drinks all night. Only to carded players. Just go to the casino and sign up. The times are listed in the dailys. We were on the Spirit two weeks ago.

Hi Donnar:

There is long message thread about this further down the page. You might want to scan the messages there. As to the question - it appears the answer is yes and no.

When it comes to free drinks, does it include any kind of liquor? Meaning top shelf choices? I'd be all about getting a nice glass of scotch on the house.

They say its house liquor, but I was drinking B&B on them.

Last week on the Majesty, I asked a casino person this question after I signed up for the player's card. The response was: You will get free drinks if you are using your card AND you play at least 20 minutes AND you are making large bets AND you continue to play and make large bets. She said it is up to the casino host but basically if you are spending, they will comp drinks to keep you there. It is very confusing and not nearly as "easy" as the marketing of the player's card makes it seem.

Perhaps they do not give drinks away on the Majesty. They were certainly giving them away on the Spirit. I think this is a very new perk for casino players and perhaps not on all ships.

I had a card that entitled me to free drinks in the casino anyway, but the time were posted in the dailys, and some nights it was all night long.

In the many cruises on NCL, free drinks don't come easy. The more you play, the more they know you, the better the chances are for free drinks. On one NCL cruise, not once did anyone at the tables get free drinks. On my last cruise, on the Spirit a few months ago, Most at our table had free drinks if we wanted. I usually only go for 2 a night. Usually they bought for the whole table when playing. The casinos at sea card has nothing to do for free drinks. Never did. Be good to the casino pit supervisior, they are the ones who will sign for the free drinks. Not the dealer.:)

Again, and very important. The rules seem to be changing. Whatever happened last week or last month does not seem to hold for all ships or all times, at least not yet.

For sure, if you are a heavy player, or a casino guest from past cruises you will get free drinks as long as you are playing or appear to be playing.

For less crazy players, there seem to be a wide range of policies. Some ships now seem to have selected hours with free drinks. Some have reported recent sailings with free drinks all the time. Some of reported no free drinks short of kissing the pit bosses you know what. It just depends.

As to top shelf or premium beers, there did seem to be a limit based on our recent 19 day Pearl.

All in all, you mileage may vary.

The Majesty was the only NCL casino where we never paid for any drinks we wanted. We've been on the Dawn 3 times and once on the Gem. Not a free drink for either us in their casinos. The Majesty has a different system for playing and receiving points. I liked it better and we got $$$ off our account at the end of the cruise.

I just got off the Dawn's 5/18 sailing and as long as you were a Player's Club member you were entitled to have all the "house" drinks you wanted while playing anything from the nickel slots to the table games. You just had to flag someone down and show them the card.

We were on the Dawn last week too and as long as you were playing ANYTHING you would be offered free drinks. We were constantly approached and offered drinks. On 1 or 2 occassions when I wasn't at a machine I was told to sit down and insert my card and then I was served. No limits, time or $ were ever required.

FYI, alot of people never tipped the servers. I gave $1 per drink and it was always appreciated.

Have fun!

AFAMILY, That was my experience too, I also tipped 1.00 with every drink I ordered, how can you not tip for that kind of service.

I completely agree.. if you can not afford to tip for your drink, you can't afford to gamble. JMOP.

I found the servers in the casino to be some of the nicest workers in the casino. I can not imagine not tipping them.

Free drinks for us second night and every night after while we played in Sun's casino. DH was drinking Jameson Irish Whiskey (top shelf) and I white zin. This was in Oct. In Jan. on the Star couldn't get a comp. drink even tho we spent more in the casino on the Star. We didn't book either cruise with CAS. So who knows how they decide about comps for any of us:confused: Our next two cruises are booked through CAS. ( We finally got the message because of CC boards!:D )

Yes, free drinks from soda to hard liquor ALL THE TIME.

Not on my last 11 NCL cruises!

At the tables there might be an occasional round if the pit boss is feeling nice. Final tables at tournaments may get a free round. Sometimes there are drawings in the casino and once in a while there will be free drink hours early in the night if it appears to be slow. Overall, the drinks are NOT free though. It's not Vegas, Baby!

On our last two trips on the Pearl drinks were free in the casino at anytime it was open as long as you had a CAS card and were playing either slots or tables, White Russians tasted great! And yes I did tip the waitress every time. :D

Heard on the Spirit that the free drinks were part of Freestyle 2.0 and eventually it would be all the time as long as your casino card was in a machine. 2.0 had only started while we were on the Spirit with the new pillows and the mattress toppers arriving as we headed off the ship to go home. At first they were just handing out the drinks but by the end of our second cruise they needed your casino card number. Hope this continues! :D

I tipped the servers but was sitting next to a lady who was winning hundreds on a machine one night and offered no tip.

I did hear them say no to a lady one night so she had to order something else but didn't catch what she was asking for. Another person ordered the "drink of the day" without a problem. An older gentleman ordered a soda as he was getting ready to play on a slot machine and was charged for it but seemed unaware of the free drink offer.

Does the Majesty have machines that calculate points on casino cards yet? The casino manager there refused to give me a card 2 years ago because I did not make maximum bets. People would put their cards where they could be seen and staff would walk around and award points. We saved money on our onboard account last year on the Pearl and again on the Spirit this year. :p

Yes, it appears things are changing.

As to tipping - this does amaze me. We always tip a $1 for a drink, just like at land casinos. It does amaze me that people bark out orders for a drink, take it and do not offer a tip or even a Thank You.
