WinnieinWA Posted June 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2008 There's not a lot on this board about the Spirit. I'm curious about the dining/activities.etc. I only have a 1A and I know what those are all about. Cheaper cabin means more cruises each year. :D Any info would be appreciated. Fazzdaan Posted June 5, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2008 You can go to the review section and find a lot of reviews on the Spirit and they are nearly all positive. I know my wife and I had a wonderful Alaska cruise on the Spirit and have booked for her other two itineraries. Winnie, I just noticed your cruise date. You may not be aware that you are booked on the Spirit's final cruise before a scheduled two week drydock. You might want to consider changing that week. Why? I have seen comments, not necessarily related to Carnival, where cruises coming into port just before a scheduled dry dock sometimes start the prep while still on the cruise. Why take that chance if you can move either a week or two earlier or two weeks later? We are booked on the Spirit to Hawaii about two weeks after the dry dock and we are really looking forward to seeing what work they do to her. As I said, we had a great time on her last summer in Alaska and are looking forward to Hawaii and then a New Year's 2010 cruise such as yours. Willie T Posted June 5, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 5, 2008 We were on the Spirit to Mexico last year, and booked again this Oct. Who could not love this ship? Or any ship? I've heard "everyone" say how easy it is to get around, but, me being me, I could get lost in my own house. Wonderful, big, bright, happy ship. I had a blast, and can't wait to go again. The dining room seemed dark and confined to me, but up until the Spirit I had only been on RCC, which had huge windows in the dining room. Small detail. The food, for me, was awesome. But any food is good for me.:D During the day there is plenty to do. I really loved the Survivor game on the Lido deck. Too funny. They do a walk for cancer on one of the sea days that had a great turn out. Shows were fun too. I think I'am very easy to please. If I'am not at work, but out on an adventure, in Mexico, on the sea, I'am one happy camper.
7toEleven Posted June 5, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 5, 2008 Another Washingtonian piping in here. Have been on the Spirit in '04 and we are booked again this coming October. I loved this ship. There were so many things to do, not do. It was easy to move around. I love love love the atrium. While the dining room was a bit dark, it was beautifully decorated, and yes the food nummy and the service outstanding. Can't wait to be on board again! Hope you enjoy your cruise! WinnieinWA Posted June 5, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted June 5, 2008 Thanks all for your replies. I have read the reviews and it looks like I'll be enjoying the Spirit a lot. Fazzdaan, I chose that week because the price was very good and the single supplement was one I can't pass up. I appreciate your letting me know about drydock. :)
billsrobb Posted June 5, 2008 #6 Share Posted June 5, 2008 I will be on the Spirit in January 2009. I have been on other Carnival ships Jubilee, Inspiration and twice on the Conquest with one more Conquest in Sept 09 with the Crazies. Looking forward to the Spirit cruise. How much different is the Spirit from the Conquest? Robb
alphakitty Posted June 5, 2008 #7 Share Posted June 5, 2008 We really loved our cruise on Spirit this past February. She's a pretty ship. Here's a link to my webshots album from this cruise. http://good-times.webshots.com/album/562576906urGkgk Cruising out of San Diego was great....very easy embarkation and disembarkation here. We really enjoyed our dinner at Nouveau Supper Club...well worth the extra charge for us. Don't miss the Bitter & Blanc dessert in the main dining room...it's a warm brioche bread pudding with vanilla sauce over the top and a dark chocolate ganache in the bottom of the ramekin. Yummy! Fazzdaan Posted June 5, 2008 #8 Share Posted June 5, 2008 Winnie, Alphakitty is correct. Make sure you eat at least once at the Nouveau Supper Club. It was absolutely worth it. You can make advance reservations online at this link. http://surv.cheetahmail.com/s?aid=982238741&o=1&n=28 If you do make advance reservations please do check that they have the reservation when you board the cruise. We have placed reservations for both of our upcoming cruises, including New Year's Eve.
yuckylucky Posted June 5, 2008 #9 Share Posted June 5, 2008 We were on the Spirit in 2002 and will be on again next month. We haven't been on a lot of Carnival ships but it's our favorite so far. The indoor pool is a nice touch for us since we're cruising to Alaska. The Supper Club is fantastic and plan on dining there again. It's in a red solarium as an extension of the signature fantail. It casts beautiful light in the room while you're dining. The piano is a nice touch as well. The aft hot tub is great to relax in and enjoy the scenery around you. Alanscruise Posted June 5, 2008 #10 Share Posted June 5, 2008 We just returned from a crossing from Honolulu to Vancouver on the Carnival Spirit. Only our second cruise. The first one was on NCL America 7 day Hawaii cruise and I cannot say much nice about that trip! The crew on the Spirit is wonderful! They are just there to make sure you have a great vacation. Service at dinner in the dining room was great. Food was very good. This ship has a wonderful lobby with a great bar. It is fun to watch all the folks on formal night as they move from the showroom to the dining room. I would book this cruise again, as a matter of fact my parents did just that! They had such a great time that they are already booked for next year. Cabin was beautiful, the ship is very clean. The supper club is one of the nicest places I have eaten dinner in ages....really wonderful! You are going to have a really good time no matter where you sail with the Spirit! AZ Karaoke Girl Posted June 5, 2008 #11 Share Posted June 5, 2008 Ahhhh the Spirit. My first Carnival ship. I had a blast. I personally like the NCL ship I was on better but the Spirit is much easier to get around on. Rarely got lost, turned around several times thinking I was heading aft:p but never lost. I didn't eat at the supper club but the free dinners in the dining room were wonderful so you don't really need to pay extra for the Nouveau Supper Club. I had things like lobster, prime rib, chateaubriand, rack of lamb etc so don't feel like you need to spend the extra money to get a good meal. Here are some of the funship activities & games that were on my ship during a sea day: Trivial Pursuit Trivia II 10am Adult Ping Pong Tourney-Men vs Ladies 10am Name That Tune Trivia II 10:30am Battle of the Sexes - Revenge Edition 11am Great Adult Bean Bag Toss Competition 11am Afternoon Trivia Quiz 12:30pm Liar's Club w/Shawn & the Host Team 1pm Ultimate Fun & Games Challenge-Spirit Survivior! 1pm Shipbuilding Sea Trials & Finals 1:45pm Genius Test 2pm Charades 2:30pm Adult Scrapbooking 2:30pm 70's Disco Dance Class w/your Spirit Dancer 2:30pm 7 Game Bingo 3:00pm (don't be late to this) Afternoon Family Karaoke 3-4:30pm Wacky Champagne Pong 3:15pm Golf Putting Tournament - Men vs Ladies 3:30pm Bean Bag Toss Competition 3:45pm Cryptic Trivia Quiz 4:15pm Sports Trivia 4:45pm Funship Fun & Games begin at 6pm Martini Experience 5-8:30pm Couples & Lovers Music 9:45-10:30pm 70's & 80's Music w/ fabulous DJ 10pm-12am Wine, Cheese & Live Music wIan 3pm Adult Karaoke Party 9pm-late (ours ended at midnight cuz someone complained of the noise) Main Show 8:45pm & 10:30pm in Pharaoh's Palace R Rated Adult Comedy in Pharaoh's Palace midnight Texas Hold'em Tournaments & Mardi Gras Slot Tournament in the casino.
