wripro Posted June 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2008 Starting in August 2008 the Club will be entirely smoke free. That means I will no longer have to rush down to get a decent table on the non smoking side. It was only a matter of time!
GrannyLorr Posted June 5, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2008 I was also very happy to recieve a notice this morning about the change in the smoking policy....no smoking in the Casino either! As of August 2, 2008........I dashed off some emails to those i knew would also be thrilled with the change. Now just have to wait until they decide it should also not be allowed in the top lounges! It will be great to be able to relax in the Club again before dinner! I think it was Matt who said something about how bad it must be for the singers in the Club...bet they are happy!
CruisinMatt Posted June 6, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 6, 2008 I wonder if this will solve the overcrowding and slow service issues in the Club at peak times?
jgn Posted June 6, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 6, 2008 What will happen to Martita and her entourage?
JaneBP Posted June 6, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 6, 2008 >" wonder if this will solve the overcrowding and slow service issues in the Club at peak times?" I never go to the club because of the smoke, so if it's smoke free, so I might go more frequently, as might others.

I never go to the club because of the smoke, so if it's smoke free, so I might go more frequently, as might others. So I am sensing that your take is that it would actually make the Club even busier? I just thought of something - nothing will be stopping the smokers from going out the doors on either side of the club where the stairs are and smoking on the landing, correct?
cands Posted June 6, 2008 #7 Share Posted June 6, 2008 Is there an outdoor area near The Club where people can step out for a smoke? Most modern smokers are accustomed to smoking outside, and would surely prefer this to smoking in a hallway or landing. Sounds like a solution to me. It will be a popular place I guess. I hope they will place some good fixed ash trays there! Marja
johnnycruise Posted June 6, 2008 #9 Share Posted June 6, 2008 Is there a change to the smoking policy during Sky Grill dinners? The fact that one could smoke there seemed to increase its popularity.I wonder if part of the reason of the smoking policy change is to increase utilization of the observation lounge in the evening. It used to have very small numbers of passengers after teatime. Went there one night and the classical guitarist was playing to just two or three people. CruisinMatt Posted June 6, 2008 #10 Share Posted June 6, 2008 Well and one flight down from the club is the crew smoking area - smokers can always join them there.. :D I'm being tongue-in-cheek, I'm sure the crew relishes a guest-free area from time to time! crystal808 Posted June 6, 2008 #12 Share Posted June 6, 2008 Hi, can anyone tell me where you heard or read of this change? I would like to see it. I just visited Seabourns site and no word there on any changes. Thanks, howndder I received a forwarded email from my TA, from SB's Marketing director (see the Around the Cooler thread). I doubt it's made it to the SB site yet; check with your TA and see if they've received the update. Paul
wripro Posted June 6, 2008 Author #13 Share Posted June 6, 2008 As Crystal808 said TAs have received these notices to forward to their clients who have bookings.
Seabourn-nail Posted June 6, 2008 #14 Share Posted June 6, 2008 I think it will only be a little while before smoking won't be allowed at all in public areas! Like in most countries. Holland will be smoke free in restaurants and bars on July first. Marja
PeaSea8ch Posted June 6, 2008 #15 Share Posted June 6, 2008 I hope they will place some good fixed ash trays there! Hopefully, the deck department and the night crew will empty and clean them frequently. ;)
GrannyLorr Posted June 7, 2008 #16 Share Posted June 7, 2008 howndder....my notification came via David Bloom at Seabourn Head Office, as an attachment for a "change of rules" for my next cruise. The last "attachment" I got was when they changed the rules for smoking in the Pursers Lobby and outside the Dining Room.....hope to get another one before our cruise changing the rules in the top Lounge too!! :D
wripro Posted June 7, 2008 Author #17 Share Posted June 7, 2008 I was very grateful a couple of years ago when they changed the smoking policy in the restaurant. The Club was always the one place left where smoking was really an issue for me, not only because the smoke drifted over to the other side, but every time I walked in the non smoking side was full and the smoking side had plenty of available seats. Now this will be less of an issue, I hope.

Now this will be less of an issue, I hope. We quit smoking in 1994. Friends of ours still smoke and we have cruised with them on Seabourn while they could still smoke in the restaurant. Even at our table, thanks to the good ventilation, we never smelled a thing. Sometimes I think trouble people are heaving with smoke(rs) is more a mental thing. However when I'm at the Sky Bar and someone smokes a cigar right next to me, without the comfort of ventilation, it really bothers me, because I like to be in the "fresh" air of the open deck, outside! Host Dan Posted June 7, 2008 #19 Share Posted June 7, 2008 The one thing that always seemed to irk me while in the restaurant, wasn't the (now non-existant) smoking section or smokers, it was the numerous times the smokers at my table got up to leave and have a cigarette by the "globe" at the entrance to the restaurant! Host Dan I had never even noticed that until we did The Crossing...then there was a continual stream out to the Globe....however it did have its up side! Two of those who frequented the Globe area were on our trivia team, and they decided to "study the Globe" every time they went out for a smoke.....it paid off...the very next day there was a question about the area they had been studying...and we got it right!! :D
