jjduck Posted October 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2004 Hi bales, We did that excursion last February and enjoyed it immensely. Our guide was a gal named Connie, originally from Germany now living in Mexico. Just as a matter of reference, we are late fifty-somethings, who enjoy active excursions. Once off the ship, various tour guides held up their signs. We got on a bus and went to the tour operator's grounds (not very far away, maybe 15 mins.), where they separated us into groups of about ten. After a short orientation and cheering of the various guides and a lot of laughter, we boarded the mercedes four wheel drive trucks (Army trucks with a top). We drove thru a village, saw the town, school kids, walked about a bit, went to a tortilla factory (ate fresh made ones. Yum!) and had a quick sight seeing thing. Then we drove thru the hills, Connie yelled out to farmers, we ducked the vegetation and just had a grand time. (Oh,she gave us Mexican names and we played name games; that sort of thing) The hiking part was too short (to us anyway),but interesting; the area was dry but pretty. Then we drove to the beach; all the trucks meet up there. Lots of people went swimming. (BTW, we are from Hawaii, so our idea of a pristine beach is ALWAYS different from others. LOL!!!!). Don't get me wrong, the beach area was nice. The food was an outdoor bbq - chicken, beef, veggies, fruits, soda and liquor. (We don't drink, but for those who did, they had a blast and I bet they don't even remember the trip. Truly, lots of liquor). This was worth the money spent. We had a wonderful day. Weather was fine. Connie really made the trip. Hope this helps and hope you have a good time. Aloha, Jon and Noreen

SweetEmi Posted October 13, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 13, 2004 JJ: I booked the Sierra Madre Expedition through the Star and it is a 7-hour tour. It sounds like what you described, was yours about that long?? Aloha, Emi
jjduck Posted October 13, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 13, 2004 Yeah, seven hours sounds about the length (like maybe 9 to 4-ish). Have fun! :D Noreen
