The weather in Alaska

We're going with Star Princess from 20 to 27 July. How is the weather in Alaska during that time? What cloth should we bring with us? Should we prepare any winter coat on the Glacier (we are going to Dog Sledding).

Thanks in advance for your information

The weather in Alaska is very variable and very unpredictable. It can range from chilly (50 degrees Farenheit) and rainy to warm (70 degrees Farenheit) and sunny, and everything in between - even on the same day!

The best advice is to bring layers so you can adjust your clothing to the weather. Include a rain-proof outer layer.

Winter coats are not necessary. They take up a lot of space, and will often be too warm, so they will not be that useful. It would be better to bring a turtleneck, a fleece sweater or jacket, and a rain-proof windbreaker. You can use all three layers when it's chilly and wet, but unlike with a winter coat, you can take some off if it warms up.

You may want to bring a hat, scarf, and gloves also. They don't take up much space and will probably be useful on your glacier excursion and also if your ship will be cruising near glaciers.

Enjoy your trip!

probably not worth clicking from 11pm-3am alaska time, unless you want to check to see if the aurora is out...........

i just checked it again and the spirit of '98 (paddle wheel cruise ship) was leaving the narrows. probably off to hit something, again.
