newbie48 Posted June 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2008 My husband and I are taking a 7 night cruise to Alaska...our first cruise...onboard Celebrity Infinity. We have booked a stateroom on the penthouse deck (I'm claustrophobic). Any suggestions on what to bring and do to have the ultimate cruising experience? Ports of call include Sitka, Juneau and Ketchikan.
Gonzo70 Posted June 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 11, 2008 Welcome to Cruise Critic. Be sure to pack layers; sometimes it may be warm enough for T-shirts, other times you may need a sweater/sweatshirt and jacket; the weather can change fast. Alaska is extremely beautiful so be sure to pack a camera and possibly camcorder as well. If you are in good health, I would highly recommend doing one of the glacier trek excursions in Juneau. They fly you out in a helicopter, land on a glacier, give you equipment, and you do a guided hike on a glacier. It is expensive, but is by far the best excursion I have ever done and was the highlight of my Alaska trip. Have a great vacation! P.S. The little picture to the left of my user name is from that glacier trek. You can see a little glacier pool in the background; the guide filled our water bottles with fresh glacier water! pattyj 1204 Posted June 11, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 11, 2008 Welcome aboard. Alaska is a beautiful cruise destination. I brought an alarm clock, binoculars, gloves, and a hat in addition to the other layer clothing that is a necessity. You never know what weather will bring so also take along a waterproof jacket. You also might want to check out the Alaska port board there is a lot of info available there.
