NCL Dawn Questions

Hey guys..I have 2 questions. Haven't been on a cruise in a long time and traveling with 40 people. Uggg..

Whats the embarkation process like in NYC. Who boards first, when, those without passports slower?, security super stringer with searching bags slowing lines like at the airports?

Bar Setup - Do you pay for this "prior" to arriving, or is it put on your bar bill. I want to offer this for my group, and will do it for them, but need to know if I have to get credit cards in the interum.

Thanks!!

PS...I'm on Deck 6 - actually we have all 4 cabins on Deck 6..anyone know anything about the rooms..should I be frightened?

welcome back to the criusing life

NYC embarkation - usually not too bad - they've gotten the hang of it. You get the terminal etc from your edocs arrive and drop your bags with the porters (tipping at least $2. per bag will get them there faster) Time to board is normally anywhere from 11:00 - 12:00 see your edocs for the time.

First to board are Villa and Suite Passengers along with Latitudes members then it's everyone else (this is actually done in separate lines) so it's really done simultaneously. (sic)

Always travel with passport so can't help you with that one.

Only your carry on should be with you when boarding - if you don't have liquor in it - it won't be a problem - just xray and off you go. Not a major and works quite smoothly and quickly.

Bar Set up has to be pre ordered at least 2 wks minimum prior to your sailing date. Order is placed throught the group event (formerly ships coordinator) of the ship you are sailing. Email - However, the pricing is now higher than it used to be so check out the prices and I'd have everyone do their own as it is billed to your credit cards separately - for those who want it that is.

You're travelling with 40 people? Hope you all aren't staying in the 4 cabins on Deck 6  Haven't sailed the Dawn from NYC (Spirit only) so hopefully someone else can help out with that one.

Happy Sailing

Boarding was done quickly and efficiently. We didn't have passports since ours had lapsed and we booked our cruise last minute. Didn't want to take the chance of sending our birth certificates to renew our passports and not getting them back in time.

We arrived around 9:30 and the latitudes line was not set up yet so we basically went to the space for everyone. We were the second couple to arrive and we were on the ship by 12:00 without a problem.

Sounds like quite a group and you’re going to my favorite destination. I’m leading a CC Group down next year. Did you have a TA, or PVP help with the group planning and assist with questions? You’ll probably get a lot of answers on the boards and I’m sure you’re all going to love Bermuda! Enjoy!:D

We love the Dawn. It was the first NCL ship that we cruised on. We are cruising on the 22nd of June. It will be our third time on the Dawn (3). Spirit (3) Star (1), Gem (1) Sun (1). I've organized 8 cc, meet & greets

The crew on all the NCL ships are the friendliest. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it.

Make sure to sign your group up for the meet & greet on the boards. You'll get to meet some of the crew and some of the passengers.

Try not to get there too early because the traffic can be really bad espacialy if there are more then one ship in port, you dont want to get there when their all getting off the ship at the same time it can be a mad house. Once you the traffic line it could take an hour before you get to terminal. Sailing out of NYC is a great photo OP. Why would you be SCARED of deck six? I've been on the dawn twice and the third will be in OCT it's a very nice ship enjoy

Thanks for the responses. I'm not really scared of deck 6..just weird that theirs only 4 cabins on that deck..but then again I'll probably hardly even be in my room.

To the person above. I am a TA, but normally I handle corporate, so doing a group like this was a first in a while. I used to work at a group/incentive company handling whole charters...but its been awhile. The NCL group desk is frustrating to work with..GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING is my suggestion...and good luck.

Funny you should mention this. I just noticed these staterooms last week on the Dawn. They're down the hall from the restrooms that are adjacent to the casino, next to the Stardust Theater.

I don't know anything about the staterooms, but I do know that they are in a really convenient location! With all 4 taken by your party, it should be a lot of fun -- nobody should complain about noisy neighbors.:)
