Wyndahm vs. BCH

Are the Wyndahm and British Colonial Hilton next to each other? What is the difference in what you get for the day and the price between the two?

BCH is withing walking distance of ship... Wyndham is on Cable Beach which is a 10-15 min. cab ride away.

O.K. I guess I have confused myself. Which beach or resorts are within walking distance of the ships.Do these resorts sit on a beach with a specific name? What resorts are at Cable Baech? Is Cable beach where I read to take the Jitney to for a $1?

The Wyndham and the Sheraton are next to each other at Cable Beach. BCH is close to the port. To get to Cable Beach you take the #10 Jitney for $1. The day passes to Wyndham and Sheraton are $15 per person. This includes use of both resorts.

We spent the day at the Sheraton in January and loved it. Here are my pictures. Nassau pictures

What would most of you recommend? I hear there is a free beach within walking distance past the BCH or spending the money to go to cable beach and pay for the bands at one of the resorts. I think I am only here for 5 or six hours total and have beach plans in St. Thomas and St.Martin. I wonder if I should just go cheap here or if it is really worth the extra money.

The "free Beach" is a short walk past BCH but beware. The beach at BCH is restricted... in that they have people keeping the beach clean and you have chairs/pool/place to buy drinks/food. You can leave your stuff on a chair and go in the water - as always watch - and have a good time. A thread a few weeks/months ago talked about going in the water at the "free beach" and having someone dart out and grab up their stuff and disappear before they could get out of the water.

Remember you are in another country. Pay the $15pp and have a great time. The ones at Cable Beach are around the same except for Breezes which is around 60pp but is AI.

I would agree with Bobsfamily. The environment around the "free" beaches is not that good. Cable beach is very nice and is worth the little extra money. The risk and bother that you have to keep looking around is just not worth it to me.

paradise08--Thanks for the great pictures!

Question--in the pic's the beach looks very small. I was looking at the white roped off area.

Is the beach small or is it just the way the photos were taken.

Thanks !:)

The beach is actually not that small. It spreads over the 2 resorts. The white ropes are to keep the boats and jet skis out of the swimming area.:)

Hi Brad,

You won't regret going to the Sheraton. Very nice pools.

We bought our passes at the Wyndham front desk and took a short walk over to the Sheraton. The pass is good for both resorts. I have read that some people went to the Sheraton and asked for passes and they did not have any. We had no problems at the Wyndham.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Michael

Thanks to all, I think we will stick with the Sheraton after all. The pool looks more impressive to me than the beach.

I have heard that the Sheraton was not selling passes but that you could go over to the Wyndham, get a pass and use both resorts.

How do you get to the resorts? How much is the taxi fare? They look very nice.

What kind of food do they have? Is it very expensive?

You can take a taxi or you can hop on the #10 jitney at Georges Street. I don't know how much the taxi is but the jitney is only $1 per person each way.

The food is sandwiches, salads and burgers. Not too expensive as I recall.

Hi Michael:

I have been trying to figure out what resort to do on a budget. I called the Hilton 800 # and they said they don't do day passes.

How do I find out about the day passes, and how much and what they include. BTW I'm heading out Feb21st and want to do something in Nassau. Atlantic seems steep 105pp

The day passes at the Wyndham & Sheraton include use of the pools, private beach, beach chairs and towels. We purchased our pass at the Wyndham for 15.00 ea.

They had a disc jockey when we were there at the Sheraton, playing music and getting people to play water volleyball.

Both resorts had a swim up bar, but the Wyndham's was totally shaded in the afternoon when we were there in Feb. and quite chilly, while the Sheraton pool was extremely warm.

We took the jitney there and it was very easy, runs about every 20 minutes.

The only warning I have it that that it doesn't include food and drink and they are very expensive. I think it was $6.00 for a domestic beer and they added a non-alcholic sur-charge on soft drinks, so they were around 3.00. We had packed a few beers in a small cooler and had no problem carrying it to the pool.

I just read Bellablue's comment about calling the 800 Hilton #. Does anyone know if the BCH is not doing the day passes anymore? My sister and I will be in Nassau July 12 and were planning to go there and relax on the beach.

Paradise:

Thank you Thank you.

I just spoke with Wyndam and was told $15.00 pp. and your pic's were great.

I so do not want to pay $105.00 to do the water slide at Atlantis. I am so doing what you said. With the money I am saying I can relax by the pool and have a coktail or two.

Thank you again!!

Is there a casino at either of these resorts?

We are going to be in Nassau on the 20th and didn't want to go back to Atlantis. I want to go to a place that has a fresh water pool and my DH wants a place that has a casino.:D

thanks

Wyndham has a casino - crystal palace.

Both resorts have chairs/umbrellas for use with wristband.

a rough estimate of the cab fare to the Wyndham from the cruise port?

I sent a link to my DH of those great Nassau pics (forget who posted them but THANKS!) and he has a few questions...

1. for the bars/meals, how do you pay for them? Do you need to have cash/credit card on you at all times (not convenient for the swim up bar!) or do you get a room key or something similar and you can charge to that?

2. Snorkeling from the beach? Those great pics look like there is some coral/grassy areas but some look like they are beyond the swimming line.

3. Ease of getting cab back to port?

It's about $5pp each way if you are talking about Nassau.
