bozza Posted June 24, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2008 We are thinking of going on either the Sea Princess or Grand Princess and are looking for a balcony cabin that's not overlooked and is either covered or partially covered. Can anyone recommend what deck and cabin we should go for? We are looking at Jan 2010 but cannot book in the UK until July 28th so not sure what itineries are available but want to do the Caribbean again. Have been on the Explorer with Royal Caribbean and really enjoyed that, will Princess be very different? Any advice much appreciated.
cindep Posted June 24, 2008 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2008 I'm pretty sure all balconies are covered on the Sea Princess as the balconies are cut out of the hull of the ship. If you decide you want to take the Grand Princess, balconies on the Caribe deck are the most sought after as they are half covered/half uncovered. I believe the balconies on the upper decks (Aloha and possibly Baha) are also covered. The totally uncovered balconies are on the Dolphin deck for the mini-suites. jtcoolk Posted June 25, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 25, 2008 If you go on the Grand the Caribe balconies are not only half covered, there are also almost twice the size of other balconies.
Toto2Kansas Posted June 25, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 25, 2008 Yes, on the Sea Princess all of the balconys are totally covered and very small, unless you go into a mini or full suite. The size of the balcony is about 3 1/2 foot deep by the width of the stateroom which is about 9 feet. Enough room for a small round table and two straight back chairs only. On the Grand Class ships is where you will find the difference in balcony sizes as stated. But the Sun Class, they are all covered no matter which category or deck you book, and all the same size, such as would be found on the Sea princess. Pam in CA Posted June 25, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 25, 2008 All balconies on the Sea Princess are covered as the cabins are cut out of the hull; the sides and ceiling of the balcony are metal and the railing is flush with the outside hull. These balconies are protected and pretty private; however, they are pretty small, just big enough for two chairs and a small table. I personally liked the balcony but also enjoyed the public aft of Aloha deck on the Sea Princess which is a good-sized area with loungers in either the sun or shade. On the Grand Princess, balconies on Aloha and Baja deck are covered, balconies on Caribe deck are half-covered and half-uncovered plus they are quite large, big enough for two half-loungers, two chairs and a good-sized table. PS: Welcome back, Toto. We missed you and your sage advice.
bozza Posted June 25, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted June 25, 2008 Thanks for all your replies, think it may be the Grand Princess, so will book the Caribe deck cabin if there are any available.
