Millenium - 1st time Alaska - any advice on cabins?

Hi

We're looking at a 10 night Ultimate Alaska cruise with Celebrity on the Millenium next September which sails in and out of Vancouver.

We're flying from UK so prices quite high so can only afford a lower price band cabin but are hoping to stretch to a balcony cabin as we think it'd be nice to be able to sit with a coffee on our balcony and look at the scenery.

They have offered us a 2C (?) grade balcony cabin in midship (cabin 6091) - can anyone comment on this? Have heard other reports that this is where the lifeboats are! Bit worried about spending more money to upgrade to a balcony, only to have a close up of a lifeboat rather than a glacier!!

Are there any 'hidden treasures' out there i.e. cabins which have extra balcony room at a lower class or are away from the noise at night etc?

In 6091, the lifeboats will be one deck below your balcony and may obstruct your view of the water when looking straight down. They won't interfere with your view out over the horizon. If you want to stay with category 2C cabins, you may be better off with something in the 6016-6051 range. These are located forward of all the lifeboats and won't have any obstruction issues. There are 16 of these cabins that have larger than normal balconies -referred to as the "Sweet 16" - cabins 6016-6030 on the starboard side and 6021-6035 on the port side. They are, however, on top of the Celebrity theater which may be a problem if you go to bed early.

You can clearly see the difference in cabins sizes in the attached picture. You can also see the difference in 2C's over the lifeboats versus those in front of the lifeboats. The deck indentation makes the cabins recede into the ship, thus potentially obscuring your view of the water.

Greetings,

Glad to see you're considering that "Ultimate Alaska" sailing. We are scheduled to be aboard, I am escorting a group of about 100 folk from the Pacific Northwest of the US.

Regarding your query as to the lifeboats/tenders. See the attached picture:

This is a port side view of a Celebrity M-Class vessel, Constellation. The boats are on their davits at the level of Deck 5. Your stateroom should be somewhere close to or between the second & third boat forward of the glass "bump out."

Deck 6 is a fine location. Excellent ride, shall we say. As you can see from the photo, lifeboat placement doesn't impact your direct line of sight from the stateroom or balcony unless you're attempting to look down into the water. As so much of Alaska is looking straight out at coastal scenery, or upwards at the majestic mountains, I should think this would be a good stateroom if it fits your budget.

Looking forward to meeting you aboard ship!

CM

Thanks.....will ring up tomorrow and see if I can get one of these! And thanks for the photos, it really helps finding out about all of these things from people who have been on the ship previously.

Just found that one of the 'sweet 16' cabins mentioned above is free but I note that the little symbol for it on the deck plan says 'one upper berth' and a 'sofa'?? Does that mean it won't have twin beds which can be converted to a queen bed??

Not sure we're up for bunk beds!!:(

cabins 6016-6030 on the starboard side

Here's a photo of the first 8 balcony cabins on Deck 6 starboard (6016-6030 category 2C cabins). It's the same on portside - hence the term "sweet sixteen". As you can see, they are twice as deep, and therefore a very good value:

You will still have two twin beds that can be pushed together for a queen. The upper birth is for if there were more people in the stateroom. Also the couch is more like a love seat, it is pretty small but two people and comforatbly sit one it. Looks like you have a chance of a good cabin, I say go for it.

The upper berth is a 3rd bed that folds out of the wall - great for families. There will still be two twin beds that can be put together to make a queen. Not all cabins have the upper berths (and some have two...), so they are marked on the deck plans.

Grab this cabin while you can!
