Casino on the TA

On other Princess ships that I have sailed on, the casino is always closed when the ship is in port. Is this also true of the TA, including on the nights when the ship overnights in FP ports?

Anytime the ship is in port, the casino is closed.

Thanks, Toto and Dan

Looks like there won't be much opportunity to gamble then, but it'll save me some money for souvenirs and other expenditures during the cruise. I' not surprised at the reply. Just comfirms what I thought the answer was.

The casino is open when you board the ship in Papette--seems to me that unlike other Princess cruises it does not close when in port--really don't know about daytime hours when in port--I would believe that it is closed at that time--they also have a smoke-free night--the casino is really TINY--but fun!!!

I would guess that it's open when your are boarding is because there are so many pax still aboard until late at night--it gives an option of things to do for those deciding to spend their day aboard before leaving for the airport.

That's good news, Nancy. Maybe I'll have a chance to try it out on boarding day.

I don't plan to be spending much daytime onboard, as I want to see and experience as much of FP as I can in those 10 days.

I had been thinking that the FP ports where we will overnight, and there's not much to do in the evening on shore (either because there's not much to do there or everything closes early), it would seem logical that the casino be open. But then, I don't have any idea what the FP government rules say about it.

I guess, come November, I'll find out how it works.

Nancy, is this something new? Each time we have sailed in our around FP (4X's now) the casino was always closed while we were in port?

In fact, when the ships were still part of the 'R' line, I remember where they could not open their casinos in FP at any time during the cruise not even while at sea. So, they had to close them down completely. Somehow Princess made arrangements to have them opened when they took over the ship, but only at sea. Maybe FP is lightening up a bit now? Just wondering.

This March when we were on the Tahitian is when I noticed it--I've been on the ship twice before and can't remember weather it was open or not--maybe they keep it open that embarcation day--just to give the extra folks a place to be--since they can't return to their cabins.

Nancy, It must be something new. As I know the last time we were on the TP, the casino was closed in every port, including Papeete. Along with the other ships we have sailed on to FP (old Crown, old Fair Princess, and the Star passing through) It would have been a good destraction that last day when we had so much time to kill before going to the airport, as the weather was quite rainy and we had to take cover. It would have been better to take cover in the casino. lol

I remember playing at a table in the Casino in the late afternoon or early evening with a couple that was ready to leave for th airport--not this last trip but before that--we ate at a table for 8 and one of the tablemates was from England--she left about 9:30 pm from dinner to go to the airport--really makes sense not to wait until late the next night or whenever to get your flight--seems you get back to Papette about 7 pm the evening before leaving--makes really good sense to leave that night if you have nothing to do the next day except spend time on the ship--we always leave in the morning and go to the IC--for a couple of days--it's always difficult to get your flights home when you want them--I 'd sure give thought to leaving the night you get in.

I am absolutely POSITIVE that the Casino was open the night we came aboard--and before the evening also.

Nancy, I will check it out again when we return on the Pacific Princess. Not sure if we are doing pre or post cruise stays this time or both, still haven't decided. Just too far in the future to make up our minds yet.

With the zoo at the airport that final night, I am leaning more towards the post cruise stay this time, it might help lighten up the chaos at the airport just a bit.

Plus, it sure beats the 'hanging out' onboard that final day, as Papeete is by far not the best place to spend all that time compared to the other islands available. ;)

Some folks on our Tahitian trip in March got a day room at the IC--most of the time you can't do that it you aren't staying for a regular day also--how great--just there then the airport--we don't leave at night--we leave early morning on Air France to LAX--seems to work well--we've also done ATN--we usually do the IC Bora Bora for pre and the IC Papette for post--more time for Bora Bora--if you use the IC either place and will be staying a weekend night--join their club--$150 usd--gives you a free weekend night and an automatic upgrade--we bought 2 last time--one in each name--worked out well because we were spending a weekend night in both places--so--2 free nights--good deal for us

Thanks for the tip Nancy, I will have to remember that.

We also found that if you do a pre-cruise stay at the IC in Papeete, the last day as your cruise ends, they will also provide a day room at N/C and use of the facilities. Only thing is, the day room is more or less just a shower room to freshen up before your flight home. You get the key, use it and then return the key for the next guest. But, it's a nice touch if you don't feel like hanging around the ship all day. Without a beach or any real attractions by the pier, except the ferry to Moorea, there just isn't all that much to do and see in Papeete for us anymore.

we had a day room a c ouple of years ago--it was a small room by a bit of a garden--with bad and bath--we paid but nt much--the shower room you are speaking of is realy great for those spending the day--they keep your louggage then you can clean up before the airport--anything but the ship--I remember folks last year going back tomid-west or whatever in long sleeve sweaters out by the pool--can you imagine how miserable--they were laying in the SUN and complaining--sometimes you really wonder what people are thinking-don't need a sweater till they get off the plane
