Newbie Question on Cabin Key Cards

Recommended Posts

Please forgive this Newbie's question, but how do you carry around your cabin key card? I am assuming that you are given a card with your picture on it and room info which is used to access your room and to charge all of your expenses while onboard. If this is the case, does NCL give you a lanyard to wear or do you just put in in your pocket at all times?

I just keep mine in my pocket. My wife uses a lanyard, but it's one she brings from home. I don't think they will issue one, although I've heard you can get one gratis in the Casino. They do sell them in the gift shops.

The card doesn't have your picture, it's just a .... well, a card, like a credit card, with a magnetic strip on the back and info printed on the front.

when you go on/off the ship, they scan the card...your picture shows up on the computer. no photo on the card, no cabin number..just name. all the info for the computers.

i just stick mine in my pocket, i have lanyards..just never bother with them. you will see folks with lanyards, ladies with small purses....

DH and I bring lanyards from home. Just ask at the Reception Desk to have your card hole punched and off you go!

It's much more convenient for us to do it that way - when we enter our cabin to change, nap, "whatever", we hang the lanyards right next to the door and that way we can grab and go:) .

You can buy a badge holder through any office supply store. It hangs around your neck like a lanyard and has a front pocket with clear cover to put your card into. The kind we have also has a back zipper pocket where we put credit cards/cash/id for when we are on the island itself.

We go the pocket route too... only lost my card once because I forgot to take it out when I went swimming. I could actually see it beneath the grate at the bottom of the pool but couldn't rescue it!!

A quick stop over at the purser's desk got me going again!!

We started using the official CC lanyard and enjoy it very much.

There is a handy clip so you can remove the card to give to your waiter or bartender. Also when going off the ship it always around your neck...we find them very handy.

Look for them at the top of the page in CC Logo wear.:D

I carry mine around my neck using gold elastic cord. I bring folding scissors. I put a hole in one end of the card... not to interfere with the strip or the end that goes into the door slot; I thread in elastic cord that I always bring; I tie the ends together in a knot, and then I wear my card. My clothes do not all have pockets, and I surely do not want to carry a bag or purse. When we arrive at our room, we always hang our cards on the door knob; so, we always know where they are. Works for us. Nancy

If you carry your card in your purse, be careful where you put it. My card kept getting deactivated every time I went off of the ship. I have been told that this can happen if it gets too close to a cell phone or digital camera. There was no problem getting back on the ship, just the trouble of having to go get a new card issued.

Also, one tip:

ALWAYS look at your card when they give it back to you. Last year on the Jewel after BINGO I realized the card they gave me with my winnings did not have my name on it. I went to the desk and within a few minutes a lady came up (she was F*R*A*N*T*IC!!!) with my card. She was soooo worried I would go on a shopping spree on her card. She was relieved to see me waiting for her.
