About a month before we left on our Mariner cruise to Alaska, a friend put us on to a web site (blog) belonging to Captain Albert of the Veendam (HAL)who writes every day about happenings as he takes his ship into Alaskan ports. The Veendam is about the same size as Mariner and makes the same ports as Mariner but it is going North when Mariner goes South. The blog is at http://www.avidcruiser.com/albert/ . It is a wonderful description of the ports and Captain Albert often includes some history. This site is a "must read" for Alaska cruisers.
