Band - Wavelength

Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any other fans of the band Wavelength, currently on the Caribbean Princess, out there? I was on the July 10th sailing and was SO impressed by them! I was too chicken  to get up and sing during 'So you wanna be a rock star' but it sure looked like fun. These guys are AWESOME, and are unlike any other band sailing that I've ever seen. They're not there just to play background music, they really rock out and get things going.

Just wanted to send props out to them and see if anyone else has seen them/met them/ sang with them?

We were on the CB on 6/22 and Wavelength was one of our favorite parts of the cruise. We saw them several times and were amazed that more people didn't come to watch them. Also, no one really danced which was kind of disappointing but not the band's fault.

Hey Bakermania-

I just joined cruise critic but have been on 9 RCCL cruises. I saw that you were a former employee of RCCL and was wondering if you knew a Magdalena Scandolowski (spelling)- a waitress when I knew her from Grandeur in 1998 and one other ship I was on....can't remember which on. She is from Poland, dark long hair, blue eyes, in her mid 20's at the time. She was a head waitress when I knew her. She gave me her contact info. as I was going to travel to her home town in Poland, but have since lost that information. Do you know her or how I might be able to find out if she is still with RCCL. Thanks for the help and look foward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Raleigh1997

p.s. you may have already received this message but was unsure if my first one went through or not.

We loved Wavelength. My husband was a professional musican for many years, so we really appreciate good live music. These talented musician were a hugh part of why we enjoyed our 7/19 cruise so much. We went to see them nearly every night. My husband even dusted off his vocal chords and sang with them one evening. That was fun, I felt like we were 27 again. I hope Princess is treating these guys well because they deserve it. They are by far the best live band I've ever seen on board a cruise ship. I'm a fan!!

I missed Wavelength on the deck.:(

Sorry you missed Rick singing, but if you really want to hear him you can go to myspace.com/laflavour On the right there is a section with some of their original songs. Rick sings "She Don't Know Me" and yes it is the same song Bon Jovi does, but Rick recorded the original verson--long story.

Yes..I was on the July 10th sailing and you have had to have seen me singing with Wavelength. I had a fan club after that. They even called me up to sing background vocals for them on Hotel California. They are an excellent bunch of musicians and nice guys too.

I was the women that got the standing ovation. After that, the band wanted to know who I was and so did alot of other people. I sang You shook me all night long, Enter Sandman and Brown Sugar. I am a professional singer and got to talk at length with some of them about my career. It was so much fun for me to sing rock again. I was a signed rock singer to RCA and have a long history in the music industry.. My current band does all cover music, but nothing heavy, so this was such a treat for me. Ive got some great pics of me singing and leaning against Chris back to back. Ill upload them onto my website & myspace.

Make sure to catch these guys at the explorers lounge.

Sorry I'm afraid I don't know her and have no idea how you'd go about finding out if she's still with the company apart from calling head office, although I'm not sure they'd give that info. out to a stranger on the phone? If you're on facebook you could search the multiple Royal Caribbean sites and post on their walls to see if anyone knows her. Or, see if there is a Polish RCI group but Facebook's probably the way to go. There are hundreds if not thousands of old & current employees on there now. Good luck! ;)

I will be posting as soon as my laptop returns from being repaired. Im on my old desktop that freezes up alot so its useless to even try.

Ill post back on here when Ive uploaded the photos. It could take a week before I get my laptop back.

My friend that was on the cruise with me also has a nice shot of herself and the band. Ill get her memory card and upload that as well. She took some photos of me singing with them too. I had such a good time.

If you live in NYC or vicinity you can come and see me with my band. We play out every single weekend.

Marge,

Thanks, I can't wait to see the pictures. I wish we lived closer to NYC so we could check out your band, but we're in Ohio. I've checked out your website and myspace. It looks like you've had a very interesting and exciting career. My husband was signed with MCA back in the early 80's. Oh my, that was as whole different lifetime ago. He still plays with his old band once in a while, but he has passed the musical torch to our two children.

Being a musician, and an old "groupie" we really appreciate live music. Live bands just don't have as many places to perform as they did back in the day when all clubs had live bands.

We were so impressed with Wavelength, they are not only a great group of musician, but a really nice group of guys too. We had the opportunity to speak with them on serveral occasions and they were kind enough to take the time to swap stories with an old pro. I love their concept with "Rockstar". From what I understand that is their product, not the cruise line's. We were on the cruise the week after you and there were a ton of people ready and willing to participate. Young, old, talented and shall we say not so talented, but everyone had such a great time. Lots of fun and lots of great music. I guess that's why we alway found ourselves back watching them.

We're booked on the CB for the 10/5 Canada/New England cruise out of NYC. Does anyone know if Wavelength will still be on board then?

Thanks,

Oledave

On their myspace page it says that they are under contract to Princess until Sept. 7th. Doesn't look like they'll be there. Sorry you're going to miss them, they're a great band.

I was also on the 7/10 sailing and had the pleasure of seeing Wavelength. They are good guys as well and make their whole audience feel like a part of the show regardless what night it is. I am also a musician and love good live music. I spoke to Richie, the singer, late one night up in Cafe Caribe. I passed on some NYC booking agency contacts that I have worked with in the past. I told him I was going to get in touch with him b4 the summer ends to find out how it worked out. I will let you know if they have any updates on where they will be next.

Anyone who likes the live band Karaoke thing can find it in some NYC bars. I don't remember which ones offhand, but if I remember, I will post the info.

WOW!! I checked out the MySpace page. I am a huge Bon Jovi fan and that is something I did not know. That was a great version to hear. I actually sang two Bon Jovi songs at Princess Pop Star. I am in the process of putting together a Bon Jovi Tribute band in NYC. I would have loved to have met you guys if we were on the same sailing.

You are so right about limited places for bands to play these days. It used to be more of a "rock club" kind of thing. Now it's mostly smaller bars or lounges. No more big stages and lighting, effects, etc. I miss those days. There are some cool places to play here in NYC and the surrounding suburbs, but they are less than in the 80's.

I'm glad you enjoyed the original "Fairwarning" version of "She don't know me".

We were on the CB the week after you. How did you do in the POP STAR competition?

I can't tell you how much we enjoyed Wavelength. Not the typical band you see on a cruise ship, and that is a very, very good thing. I heard they did a concert in the Princess Theater last night. I wish they had done that on our cruise. I would love to see them in a larger venue. If they would play the larger theater early in the cruise, I'm sure they would pack the lounge everynight after that.

Judyjay, I saw that too, on their website. I hope someone from last cruise posts on here to tell us how it was! What I understand was that they wanted to do the show on the last night of the cruise 'just in case' it didn't go over too well or something but hopefully they ROCKED and proved to Princess they can do it. Look forward to someone telling us about it!!!

I spoke to someone that was there last night and they said it was awsome. The theater was full and the crowd loved them. Who thought it might not go over well? Couldn't have been the band, they've got to know how good they are.

Just returned today from 7/28-8/6 CB sailing. Unfortunately I did not catch the band early on in the cruise in lounge, however our cruise a first ever rock concert was put on last sea day 8/5 in Princess Theatre with Wavelength. OMG it was an amazing concert! The theatre was filled and WE ROCKED! The band played with the ship's show band providing back up with sax, horns and keyboards. We wish the concert was longer - we were all screaming our heads off. Cruise director Dan said this was the first time they tried this to see how well it would go, and it was a success, so I imagine they will be doing this for future cruises. They played a variety of songs, opening with Deep Purple Smoke on the Water, a Steve Miller song, Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall, Rolling Stones Sympathy for the Devil, a few acoustic numbers Eagles Hotel California and Don Henley Forgiveness. For the last number they ROCKED off the chart with Metallica's Enter Sandman and was called back for one encore with awesome version of Lynyrd Skynrd Freebird.

OMG ... they were amazing and I am a fan. I hope they can move onto better things as their talents are awesome. The lead guitar solo's were amazing as he was able to reproduce the exact riffs with his own flair. And Chris really had a ton of energy. I haven't searched to see if they have their own website to find out where they go from here, but I will check out the link posted earlier from prior cruises. Anyone going on upcoming CB cruises are in for a treat if they continue with these rock concerts in the theatre!

Cathy
