mina Posted October 20, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 20, 2004 Hi all: we are considering the coastal cruise on the Star May 8, 2005. We always sail princess - but would like to try something new. I have a ton of questions - hoping all of you can fill me in: (1) SPA -- is there an extra charge to use the hydropool and spa facilities? If so, how much is it? (2) Adults only pools -- do they have any adults only pool areas? (3) Is the regular dining room food as bad as some of the reviews on here imply? Is there any trouble making reservations for the speciality restaurants for every nite? (4) how is the casino? Are the slots tight? Do they have three card poker? Is the table minimum $5? (5) Room Service: Can you order off the main restaurant's menu for dinner via room service? (6) is there any better/worse location for selection of a mini-suite? Do you hear noise from the pool deck above the min-suites? Thank you for your help!
SweetEmi Posted October 20, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 20, 2004 Mina: Hi! I can answer some of your questions. 1) There are many areas of the spa that are "no charge" like the pool, whirlpool, etc. And it is wonderful to relax in their lounge chairs that have beautiful views! 2) There are is a pool in the spa area that is adults only. 3) I thought the food was pretty good and most of the reviews I've seen agree, though I did see a couple that didn't. But all in all - great food. You can only make reservations for that day and the next day (unless you are in a real high-end room) and there are some that it might be hard to get into, but if you are persistent you will eventually get a table there. Also, if you really want a table - I would suggest going to the restaurant that night and talking to them because I'm sure there are "no shows" 4) I don't know about the casino yet because the Star didn't have a casino here in Hawaii, but I'll let you know when I get back next month! 5) For certain high-end rooms you can order full restraurant meals but generally room service is pretty limited. 6) Can't answer that question. Sillyjilly Posted October 20, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 20, 2004 SweetEmi, Does the spa pool have a roof that allows sun light in? Thanks, Jill

Cruise_More_Often Posted October 21, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Hi, Mina. DH and I are booked on that cruise, and I can answer a couple of your questions after cruising on the Sun's repo to Vancouver last year in late April/early May. (3) If you are in a mini-suite or above, you will have the services of a concierge who can book you into the specialty restaurants on the first day if you'd like. We did that but changed restaurants/times (with no problems) during the cruise. (5) Unless you are in a suite higher than a mini-suite, the room service menu is not the same as the main restaurants' menus. (6) We are booked in a mini-suite right in the middle of the ship, right under the pool, on the starboard side. I've read that the noise from the pool is not that noticeable even in the mini-suites right under the pool. From my experience last year, I can tell you that there probably won't be many people in the pool. It was COLD and WINDY while at sea. Besides, even if there were, you'll be so busy with all the activities that you won't be in your cabin anyway!! Hope you decide on that cruise. The repositioning cruises are great, and that one has a particularly good itinerary. I started a meet and mingle thread quite a while ago, but so far the only people posting are me and another fellow cruiser from last year's Sun repo. We're lonely and have almost given up posting. Urban trekker Posted October 21, 2004 #8 Share Posted October 21, 2004 Hope you decide to do this cruise - Cruise More Often and I would love to have some company on this big spacious floating hotel and what attracted me to this cruise was the variety of the ports of call - While NCL has changed Campbell River to Namaimo either stop will provide lots of shore opportunities. Consider joining us on the Star 05/08/05 roll call thread - i will bump it to the top to make it easier for you to find it Cheers Dennis
