Bait and Switch???

I am a first time cruiser who is in need of good advice and expertise which is why I went with a very well established local TA.

 

If expecting a phone call or an email to be returned in less than a week's time if at all, is high maintenance than I guess I am.

 

Whatever the case... I leave tomorrow and I am excited! I hope I have managed to take care of all of the really important stuff for the cruise and for home base. I'm sure it will all come together and we will have a wonderful time. :)

vyk, please don't worry about the two category upgrade, it really is nothing, I know they make it sound like a big deal when booking, they want to make you think that you are getting something special. I have been on three Carnival cruises and had a great time on each one. Carnival is not my favorite cruise line, but Carnival is a LOT of fun.

 

Please report back here after your cruise and let us know how it turned out. It only took one cruise for me to become addicted, well I'm not addicted, I could quit anytime, I just don't want to.

 

Go, expect to have a great time, I believe that you will have super good time.

I wouldn't be too hard on your TA, either, but it would be good to find a cruise specialist (or just participate on this site) to get answers to your questions. Usually all that "two-category" upgrade means is that you choose what you want, and you pay for a cabin that is two sub-categories lower. Every cruise line has a different way of designating cabin categories, so it can be very easy to get confused. Usually there is some kind of fine print that states that upgrades will be within the configuration you chose in the first place, i.e. inside to slightly-more-preferred inside, balcony to balcony, etc. It doesn't mean that you can book a balcony and get a suite.

 

If you'll notice, every cruise line has lots of "categories" that are basically the same cabin, just with different locations. It's complicated, but part of the fun of cruising is trying to figure it all out.
