fuel surcharge refund booked prior to Nov. 16 problem

Recommended Posts

Slightly different scenario but we booked before there was any surcharge. In Feb 2008 we moved our booking to a TA. (So we moved our booking during a time when the fuel surcharge was in effect.) We paid the full final payment that included the fuel surcharge. 2 weeks later the fuel surcharge was rescinded for bookings before Nov. 2007(?). We didn't call, we didn't scream, we read that we would either get the fuel surcharge back on our credit card or as an on board credit. Even though the fuel surcharge was on our statement, we did not ask the TA to call. We checked before the end of the cruise and there was the on board credit.

So my moral is, stop wasting your time with the customer no service reps. Print whatever you see for reference later and save your time and energy.

If the OBC had not been on our account I would not have stood there and argued with them. I would have waited until I got home. (And asked them for a free cruise for the insult, wink, wink.)

And one more thing. We knew we would have extra on board credit. The customer relations clerk said the only way we could get that money was in the casino or on the last day of the cruise. We did a combination of the 2 of these with no problem.

We booked last July (07) and finished paying for Feb 08 cruise on Explorer in Nov 07...a surcharge showed up in our on-line statement in Dec, so we promptly paid it off. On checking statement again in Jan 08, fuel surcharge was still on bill...called RCCL and they said the on-line statement was incorrect, they would e-mail an official statement showing no balance due (they did and i printed it out). A few days later I checked on-line again and found surcharge balance still due; repeated entire calling RCCL process, printing out another official statement and all that again. About a week later, the on-line statement showed surcharge still due; another call, this time RCCL told me surcharge didn't apply and they had credited amount back to my charge card account ( i checked this and they did). The credit they gave me caused the billing problem, making it look as though my surcharge was still due. I knew this would all cause problems at check-in and boarding and it did. I was sent from express boarding line to general population long waiting line to settle up my unpaid bill; after waiting 30 minutes here, i showed the counter person my 2 official RCCL statements which she told me were superceded by the statement shown on her computer. I paid the surcharge again, after all this inconvenience...just as I had back in December. I've written 3 notes to RCCL post cruise and received no replies yet.
