Voyager Transatlantic questions

Hi,

I've just booked the Nov 21 transatlantic aboard the Voyager and have a few questions as it is my first time sailing with RSSC.

1)How does Radisson deal with single passengers at meal times?

2)Do they offer shuttles between shipside and the town centre and/or do they charge for this?

3)Is there a charge to use the steam room/sauna?

4)What are the charges for internet access aboard?

5)Can anyone recommend "must see's" in any of the ports? (Malaga, Cadiz, Lisbon, Lanzerote and Tenerife)

Thanks in advance for your help,

Beth

Beth, can't help you on your questions since the 15 day cruise is also our first Radisson cruise, however, there is another thread, moved by our brilliant host to "other cruise roll calls", which you should take a look at.

On that thread, you'll see that my wife and I, and another couple, have booked a highly recommended driver/guide for an all day tour of Sintra, Estoril, and Cascais for our day in Lisbon. The van we've booked holds six comfortably. You're welcome to join us if you'd like. The cost is 270 Euros for the day. The pp cost, if five, would be 54 Euros, about $67US.

The first thing that will happen is that they will get all of the singles together and they continue that each day throughout the cruise. On our past cruises with RSSC the singles have had a lot of fun. You'll be asked if you want to join others for meals and they will also invite you often to eat with different ship's officers. You're gonna love it. On Voyager and Mariner they have professional dance hosts for the ladies and they will also spend time escorting them to dinner, etc. No hanky panky - these guys are bonded and are real professionals. No charge that I know of for sauna use. Shuttles to town depend upon the distance from the pier to town. In most case they don't and you don't need them. I would highly recommend the tour to Granada and the Alhambra from Malaga. From Cadiz I would recommend the tour to the Real Alcazares and the Cathedral in Seville even more than the Granada tour. We spent three days in Puerto de la Cruz(Tenerife) prior to the cruise a couple of years ago, but only took the tour to Mt. Tiede because it was included. It was just OK, but mainly because the Mt. was above the clouds and we couldn't see the coast much of the time. You'll love RSSC. It's different than anything you've experienced if you've been cruising the mass market lines. We've been on all of the RSSC ships and are off for Rome and the Diamond tomorrow.

The first night just after sailaway, there'll be an opportunity to meet other singles, and they usually have a table for dinner that night that you are free to join. The social hostess will coordinate many activities, including reservations for the specialty restaurants. There will also be invitations to lunches and dinners with ships officers and other couples, especially on formal nights. I guarantee you will not be bored or lonely. You'll find the singles on RSSC to be a very interesting mix, and unlike many lines, singles are included and made welcome, which is probably why you find so many single travelers on RSSC.

Where necessary, shuttles are provided free of charge.

In Lisbon, try not to miss the Coach museum. It's easy to do on your own and is an up-close and personal way to explore this luxurious (for its day) form of transportation. If you take an organized tour, you'll find the all day Sintra trip to be outstanding.

Yes, this is the trip I referred to. There is a great restaurant in Sintra in the heart of the little shopping area. The ship tours dine there, but it is worthy of a visit by individuals as well. Can't remember the name, but your guide will know. Also, this is the best spot for shopping for quality Portugese goods to take hoome. There are small shops where you can sample a great selection of Port wines. Be sure to buy two bottles, one for home and a nice white for before dinner drinks on your veranda. I assure you that's what I'll be doing for the Diamond crossing!

Hi Beth:

My husband and I we be sailing on the VOYAGER with you. We are the "other" couple doing the private all day tour with Anthony and Fran. This is our first time on Radison too. But alas we will sail only seven days, Barcelona to Tenerife, sob.

We would love for you to join our Lisbon tour. We will look forward to meeting you.

We did this very cruise on the Mariner about 2 years ago. It was a marvelous cruise.

Radisson will normally provide a shuttle bus into town free of charge unless the main part of town is in easy walking distance to the pier.

The internet charges on the Radisson are very, very reasonable. I believe we were on the internet emailing home about 1/2 hour everyday ( for 17 days) and our total cost was about $50.

We did take a fab tour in Lisbon with "Tours for You" and Josue was our driver and guide. We visited Estoril, Sintra, and Lisbon and had a wonderful meal in Sintra ( taken there by Josue) Be sure to try the green wine.

Our experience was that in the port of Malaga, the tour of Granada and the Alhambra should not be missed. We also visited Seville from the port of Cadiz and were a bit disappointed by this city. True it was on a Monday and all museums were closed but we did visit the Cathedral and walked the "old quarter". Since you are visiting both ports, you can visit both sights and compare for yourself. Actually, if you prefer to stay in Malaga, don't miss the Picasso Museum and the Alcazaba Fortress.

We thoroughly enjoyed this cruise which had many intensive ports and then the tranquil transatlantic voyage "home".

Have a wonderful time.
