Lunch in Quebec City

Recommended Posts

I'll be celebrating my birthday (never mind which one!:D) while on our cruise this fall and we will be in port at Quebec City from 7am to 5pm. Can anyone recommend a restaurant for an exceptional lunch, since we won't be there for dinner? We will be touring the city on foot by ourselves.

If it is a week day you can have lunch in the dining room att he parliament buildings (unless of course there are speical dignitaries in town) This is the dining room for the MLA's and you get lovely white glove service an excellent meal all at a very reasonable price subsidized of course by the tax payer...

The dining room is at the left hand entrance to the parliament buildings.

If it were me, I would opt for the Astral Restaurant (rotative restaurant on top of the Loews Le Concorde Hotel. It's a buffet but of excellent quality (I'm not a buffet fan, by the way) or for the Il Theatro Terrace on St.Jean St. (when will you be here? maybe too cold for the terrace?), very good food (but I've never been there for lunch) on one of our nice shopping/entertaining street. While I've never eaten there, you might want to consider the restaurant in the Chateau Frontenac, I'm sure you would remember forever eating there.

It's constantly amazing to me how helpful these boards are to us cruisers. I was just wondering where to have a nice lunch during our pre-cruise day in Quebec and lo and behold, this thoughtful recommendation. Thanks Caroline & Kanna!

Just wondering if someome could give me an idea of dress codes for some of these restaurants at lunch. Being that we will be touring the city on foot, we would be pretty casual. Some of the restaurants mentioned such as Initiale and Aux Anciens Canadien look pretty upscale.

AuAncien Canadien was casual. We went for lunch in regular everyday clothes. And everyone else seemed casual. It was very cozy. Fireplace, gingham napkins, homey filling food.

It is possible dinner is more dressy.

I would doubt it would ever be more dressy. People in the province of Quebec aren't very dressy and there are few (if any) restaurants with a dress code. We are just as likely to spend $100 a person in jeans as we are in a dinner jacket or suit.

In Montreal, I can really only think of one restaurant that might have a dress code, Nuances at the Montreal Casino. Just not a very dressy province.

That sounds positively provincial:cool:

I am going to enjoy it so much....hopefully
