hulamoon Posted July 31, 2008 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2008 Hello everyone, I am going to try my question again. Next spring we will have a Saturday in LeHavre and be in harwich for Sunday. I learned from the CC boards that the train from Harwich to London will not be dependable on a Sunday. Is it reasonable to consider transportation from LeHavre to London, overnighting there rather than on the ship? I am trying to get more time in London before rejoining the ship in Harwich. Hal has quoted me $250 pp to tour London from Harwich but I do not think this is posted yet. Thank you...

Checked for the next Sunday at typical time when ship berths: One direct train from Harwich International (Cruise Terminal) to London Liverpool Street (Cruise ship on Sunday because JEWEL OF THE SEAS...) but hourly transfer connection via Manningtree Getting from Le Havre is somehow difficult: A lot of transfers before you get from Le Havre to Lille to get on the Eurostar trains. E. g. on Aug 3 one connection with 3 transfers in 7.30 hrs... starting at 08.06 hrs. There are not too many connections from Le Havre to Lille or Paris to get connection to Paris. Another option: You can go by ferry at 17.00 hrs to Portsmouth and from there to London. But you need to stay overnight in Portsmouth. http://www.ldlines.com Another option: You can get a car from Europcar against additonal fee in Le Havre. You can return in Calais at the ferry port the car. You can take the ferry to Dover. From there are direct coaches with National Express or trains to London. or You can return in Lille Europe at the High-Speed-Train Eurostar Station the car You can take the Eurostar to London. http://www.europcar.com http://www.eurostar.com http://www.poferries.com http://www.seafrance.com http://www.nationalexpress.com http://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk Regards, HeinBloed
hulamoon Posted August 1, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted August 1, 2008 Thank you for the great info. What do you think? Considering how difficult it will be to get to London, would you do this, or do the ships tour to get to London from harwich? I thought more time might be fun after so many days on the ship. Also, what would be the top sights in your opinion in Normandy/paris? The beach and cemetaries would not be our top priority. I like the idea of Mt. St. Michel, but it is not as close. aloha! Decide yourself: Guess you would get early ashore... you'll have to walk 20 minutes to town to get your car... it takes about 3 hours to Lille... Subject next year is the same schedule as this year... you'll get the 13.30 hrs train... and you'll be 14.30 hrs local time in London (Do not forget different time zones France vs. UK). If you think that it's worth you should do it. What would you think about Honfleur and Giverny (Monet's Garden)??? Regards, HeinBloed
