Just off Sovereign of the Seas last week - What's going on?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else noticed that the "big" sales on the ships aren't much anymore? We were on SoS last week and we aren't sure if they are just reducing stock or what, but there were hardly in big sales going on the ship and even the casino was never crowded. We also noticed that they have made the slots so tight that they hardly paid anyone on the entire cruise for the most part. Much tighter than our previous cruises. A lot of the big jewelry stores in Nassau were disappointing as well. We saw small sales like 15% off US Retail and a few 40% of US Retail.

Just wanted to see if anyone else was seeing this on the ships and in the ports.

Yes, we ate there on our day at sea. There is a $3.95 cover charge and the shakes/malts are extra. It is great especially if you have kids. But be aware that it is small and only holds about 40 people at most. At peak times there can be a bit of a line.

This will be our first trip with RC & on the Sovereign. Going 8/22. How was the crowd in bars & club on board? Was there a nice crowd?

On our 9 day NCL cruise last March crowds died down quick or never excisted.

I don't want to go off the ship after dark in Nassau so I am hoping for a fun crowd on board. Oh, how much are the alcoholic drinks and beer?

And one other question, what about the shows? We have a late dinner seating 8:30pm. Will there be a show after dinner or do we have to go before? Kind of beats the whole reason for having an late dinner seating.

Thanks!

Most of the bars had a steady crowd of people, but most were not crowded. The clubs all seemed to have a nice attendance too. Nassau is actually a fairly safe place if you stay in the main areas and lot of people like Senor Frogs or even go out to Atlantis in the evening. We just stayed out until about 8pm at Atlantis and then came back to the ship and ate in the Windjammer. The drinks onboard varied, but mixed drinks were averaging about $7.50 each (including the built-in gratuity). I think the beers were generally around $5 each or so. The drink of the day was about $10.50 after gratuity, but you get to keep the glass. Get the soda card if you are going to drink a lot of sodas.

We also had an 8:30 dinner seating. They offer shows that work for both seating times. The late seating group has their show at 10:30pm. The only exception on our four day cruise was the last night where that have a show around 7:15 so you can go before dinner.

I just can't believe that the drink of the day has gone to $9.75. Two months ago they were still $5.95.

It's making my onboard bar tabs very expensive? :(

Are they getting the alcohol from Iran too? LOL

Not all the drinks were that much........you can get them without the souvenir glass........and last time I was on the SS(July 4th) they had buy one,get one free in the casino every night.........even free drinks the first night...........

Yeah, I was just kidding. For the most part, we find a way to drink somewhat inexpensively when we cruise (I make an appearance anywhere there is free alcohol onboard). LOL

I was just surprised to read in four different threads today that the DOTD with souvenir glass went up 4 bucks so quickly. But with that said, just about everything else has gone up, why not alcohol too? :)

I am glad to hav the shows after dinner.

And please let us know about the casino free drinks. I am not a big drinker, so I am a cheap date, but DH likes to throw a few back ;) Plus he likes the slots so that might be a good combination!

Can you tell me if guys were just wearing slacks and a short sleeve dress shirt for formal night in the dining room? It is DH's B-day that day, but I just can't get him to wear his suit in the middle of August! He'll prefer the buffet, but I really enjoy going to the dining room.

Not sure what Royal Carribbean allows as it is our first time.

Is Ben and Jerry's free?

Ok, think that is about it for my questions. Thanks a million. I am really trying to make this a special b-day trip on a budget for DH.

Any suggestions for Nassau? Anyone tried Breezes day pass? I am not really a Atlantis fan or a shopper, so trying to find something different.

Your husband can wear what he wants for formal night...no one will stop him,but most will have jackets on or at the very least a long sleeved shirt......now keep in mind, after dinner, most change into comfy clothes.......

You can do the WJ that night if you feel more comfortable...in fact, we alternate....last SS we only ate in the WJ(at night, its much nicer than lunch time).....next time, its the dining room.....

Ben and jerrys is NOT free......Crown and Anchor members get a fre coupon for one,but since this is your first, you wont..........next time though!!

We went to Breezes last month with the day pass......its the pits,if you ask me.......pools were gross, food was nasty, the whole enviroment was not our cup of tea........if you're 20 something and just want to drink,drink,drink...go for it......but I would never go back again.........and I was glad we wasted $110 rather than have booked it for a weeks stay and waste thousands...

My next SS cruise is for my birthday too.....:) I have been on her tons so if you have any more questions,ask..

As far as formal night goes, you can wear what you want, but this time we noticed that very few men had jackets and only a couple that were truly formal. Almost all the men were wearing shirt and tie and most were long sleeves. There were some more causual, but the shirt/tie combo was by far the most common. Women tended to dress a little more "formal" but still the majority this time was a nice sun dress or simple evening dress. Only a few women wore formals. It could be it was more casual because it is summer and the ship was full of families.

The drinks were free for one hour each evening in the casino, but that was it. It was like a casino happy hour basically.

We had some ice cream at Ben and Jerrys. A small cub is $2.50 and a waffle cone was $5.00.

Hope that helps.

You're killing me. I spent hours yesterday trying to figure out what I wanted to do in Nassau on the 26th, and I finally decided upon Breezes. Now I say nay-nay.

I want to do a resort that is somewhat all inclusive. Do you know of any others? Are you trying any others when you go next week?

Waaaaaah.

BTW-I crack up whenever I see your CC name...........my son is Matt and I can picture his sister saying "MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTT":p

Ah, no they didn't have BOGOs on the ship, but if you are a Gold or higher, you should have at least one coupon for a BOGO at any bar.
