Resources for Visits to Venice, Tuscany, Italy et al....

Recommended Posts

I must share! I just finished the book, "1000 Day in Venice" by Marlena de Blasi. The book is wonderful....hysterical.....insightful. If you are going to Venice, it would be a great pre-trip read for providing insight into the Venetian people.

M. de Blasi is an American who met a Venetian on one of her travels to Venice & in less than a year sold her home, her business, kissed her grown children goodbye, & moved to Venice & married the "stranger". She & her "stranger" host "food" tours in Tuscany. If anyone is interested, I googled her name & found the link (it is meetyouinitalydotcom). We are considering taking one of the tours in fall 2009.

I also read, "City of Falling Angels, written by the author who wrote, "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil". It also is very good (but I loved the de Blasi book). City of Falling Angels is also a good read before visiting Venice. It has a lot of info about the Fenice Opera House fire; even the conviction of the arsonists. It gives the history of many families (generations of a family of glass factory owners & artists) & buildings/palaces.

Happy travels everyone.
