erniesband Posted April 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2004 Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Milano? Comments? We've stayed at the Wyndham Old San Juan several times over the past few years and were thinking about making a change. We know this isn't a beach hotel, and a casino isn't important to us. We don't want to be in the Condado district, and El Convento is a little out of our range. Before we make the reservation, I thought I'd check to see if there are any experts out there. phallock1 Posted April 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2004 We stayed there, and were quite disappointed. We decided to go a day early at the last minute, and that's all that was available at the time. It can't compare to the Wyndam--very small rooms, no amenities, and old. Only plus was its closeness to Old San Juan, which we wanted because of its closeness to the pier. As it turned out, the Adventure didn't even leave from that pier(which we had always left from before). We had to get a taxi out to the other pier close to the Condado area. Hope this helps. Guest Posted April 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Stayed there for a couple of days pre-cruise *Rooms were very, very clean, almost antiseptically so *Price was right *Free continental breakfast on the rooftop restaurant was sufficient *Staff not overly friendly Right in the heart of OSJ (Cale Fortaleza) so very convenient as a base to explore the old city *Rooftop restaurant good for lunch, but one can do much better for dinner. *Taxi needed to pier -- any peir. All-in-all, an OK place to stay for a night or two. Brandis Posted April 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2004 I mostly agree with RichardK. I found the staff to be quite nice, had some chats with with the reception staff and they recommended us some restaurants for lunch. The pier at the courthouse and the one at Wyndham Old San Juan are in a walkable distance. Also, the bus terminal is nearby as well. We found the location convenient and I would stay there anytime again. Thought the rates were very good! Marc
Guest Posted April 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2004 Marc, Respectfully, you might be giving the original author some bad advice about the "relative distance" to the pier. Sure the main piers are indeed within walking distance of the Hotel Milano. But, you know how crowded OSJ is, especially on "cruise days", And with all of those people, and those cobblestone streets, do you want to be dragging a 26" or 29" Pullman Suitcase behind you as navigate towards your ship/pier?? IMHO>>>I think not!!! Brandis Posted April 13, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 13, 2004 RichardK, We walked from the Hotel Milano to the bus terminal as there was a taxi strike that day and it wasn't a problem. Each of us had a medium sized suitcase plus a carry-on. Took us about 10 min., not that bad... Marc
erniesband Posted April 13, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted April 13, 2004 Thanks for the input, we've stayed at the Wyndham OSJ before and have no trouble walking around the old city. We're just looking for something different this time. Nancy_Hawks Posted April 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 13, 2004 This hotel was recommended to us by a friend. So we booked it for 2 nights before our cruise coming up in August. I'm guessing there are probably better hotels, but the price is right and my friend said it was nice & clean and close to town.
