All Things Fascination

Have you stooped to the point of trolling now because you are embarrassed that you went out of your way to make me look stupid when you were the incorrect one?

Wow what an imagination...

If you would LOOK at my post you will SEE where I stated it was IN JAN...

We arrived on the Empress deck in Jan. and left from the same upon our return

Once you stated you got off yesterday I said -and I quote:

They must have changed the set-up since Jan...

won't deny that it could have happen.

Now exactly WHERE did I make you LOOK stupid... it seems you are quite capable of that all by yourself..

I haven't seen this asked or answered...when I get on board, do I head straight to the room with my suitcase or is it taken from me and I have to go somewhere else for a while? I'll have a medium size suitcase and what I call a carry on bag that contains my camera and such.

Depends.

On our trip, we checked one bag and carried on the rest. We got on board at 1:10 and were told the rooms would be ready at 1:30. We waited in the elevator area for the 20 minutes and the doors opened promptly at 1:30.

An Aft Balcony would be nice indeed, but then again, "any port in a storm"!

I love Fascination and am looking forward to my third cruise on her, this month! 2 Weeks to go and counting down in every way possible!

All Things Fascination.. She was the first ship I cruised on and I love the fact that I know my way around. I have a favorite seat on a favorite deck with a favorite view. The only thing that would be better, would be an Aft Balcony! But, til then.... I will be where I most prefer... and not giving that spot away at any cost!

See you on board! (or not!):p

Has anyone stayed in a wheelchair accessible room? We are looking at a cruise in March and want a balcony cabin that accomodates a wheelchair. Our TA said there are 2 on the main deck.

Thanks!

The only cabins that have balconies as of now (I think in Jan. she receives more balconies) are suites and Main has no suites...

From website:

Staterooms are available that are modified for wheelchair users. Please contact Carnival Reservations department, Guest Access Services, at 1-800-438-6744, ext. 70025, for details.

Hope this helps.

I've been cruising around the boards reading different reviews of a Fascination cruise I had just taken last week. I saw this board and decided to post a few thoughts (mainly opinions - so no need to harp on me for posting simply that). Some things may have already been said, but I did not read all 31 pages of this post, so I apologize in advance if anything is repeated. Cruises are what you make of it. It's your decision to do what they have planned or choose to do something else. Make the most of it!

Not every cruise will be the same, and I realize that the same things will not happen each time. This is just what happened from our experience.

Our waitress for dinner was awful. The first night we were there, my husband did not receive bread after everyone was given some. I asked her politely if we could have some bread and she glared at me with a very nasty look. This basically made the rest of our dining experience a bad one. One of the people at our table had requested steak after having eaten a partial entree, and the rest of our nights dining, she asked "No steak for you tonight?" very sarcastically and rude. After that, all of us were so afraid to ask her for anything extra. You could tell even her assistant was afraid of her, especially the night she ripped him a new one right in front of all of us. We didn't let this ruin our trip though. We still had a good time with all of the people we sat with.

There were some complaints about the cruise director, Felipe. I think his comedy was more directed towards a younger crowd. He was funny, and not too bad, in small doses.

Our cabin stuart was wonderful. Our room was clean every night, and I mean OCD clean. We had gone to Half Moon Cay and brought some sand back with us to our shower, and that night, every speck of it was gone.

First time cruisers to Nassau, go to Atlantis/Paradise Island. Don't spend too much time on Nassau. I wasn't very fond of every single person rushing up to you, or trying to put a necklace on you. A guy came up to us and put a necklace on both of us, asked for a donation for the school children and then pulled my husband to the side to ask if he wanted something to smoke. The straw market is filled with purses and jewelry. Didn't find too much in there I couldn't live without. Not much else to see on the island as far as we knew (others might have different opinions).

We stayed on the Riviera deck and didn't mind it at all. We didn't notice hardly any swaying and even when we did, it wasn't anything to pay too much attention to.

The anytime dining in the Coconut Grill was okay. The breakfast buffet was decent for the most part. The deli in the back of the ship was great. Pizzeria was good. Go for the combination pizza. The dining room food was good, but I think our waitress made it a point to let it sit for a while. The warm chocolate melting cake was very very good. Although if you get one that is cooked all the way through, it doesn't taste that great.

If you don't think you'll drink that much soda, don't buy the soda card. We spent $36.00 for two sodas. We drank water for most of the cruise, which tasted fine and didn't have any ill effect on us. We bought a Carnival souvenir (sp?) cup and filled it with water in the anytime dining room the whole time we were on the cruise.

The 80's review show was great! There was a show with a lady that I think was named Tia, but I can't remember for sure. She was funny. It was a good show. The "Hey Mambo" show wasn't that great, but I'm not really a fan of stuff like that anyway.

Out of the two comedians, I liked Tony Esposito the best. He was hilarious! We were all in a rolling continuous laughter for about 10 minutes straight.

My advice for first time cruisers, go to all the shows. If you don't like it, you can leave and do something else. Don't stay in your cabin the whole time. Get out and explore! Why pay money to sit in your cabin as you would at home? A lot of people say to not book your shore excursions through the ship. This is true, but if you go to an island owned by the cruise line, you can't book any cruises on the island. So find out if an island you're going to is owned by the cruise line, and if not, you could find a shore excursion for cheaper on the island.

Again, these are all my personal opinions after going on my very first cruise and some things I wish I would've known before we went. I'm sure a lot of you have different opinions, which is fine. I just thought I'd share mine for people who want to know more about Fascination.

We're sailing out on Fascination 11/9... so close I can taste it!

Wondering if there is any place on the ship that has the NFL Network and would be showing games?

I know some of you may get on me about watching football while on a cruise. But watching the Bears in the fall with my husband is one of our favorite things to do together...the other is cruising. So when I found out that our Bears are playing on Thursday the 12th while we're on board, we thought we would perhaps try to do both!

Does anyone know if the ships have NFLN and show it in a bar or the casino maybe?!

Thanks!

We went on the Fascination on Oct 9, 2008 and enjoyed every bit of it. The Crew was very friendly and we loved both of our waiters and our cabin steward. The only thing we found that was on a downside was the midnight buffet. I found out right before we sailed that they stopped the midnight buffets on all of the Fantasy Class ships to save Carnival some money and they do only a "Midnight Snack" which consisted of hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, fries and ice cream. Which wasnt bad food but I was looking forward to the traditional Midnight Buffet that you see in all of the cruise pictures. The ship was a little rocky but we had went through some storms leaving out and the seas were a little rough but not so bad that I wouldn't go again on the very same ship! We did love this ship and the port was very convienient and embarkation and debarkation was virtually painless. You won't regret anything about this cruise.

That buffet has been GONE from ALL Carnival ships for years... in fact almost all cruise lines have stopped them... not only for cost factor but just wastage... less than half of what was put out was ever eaten. What you get know is at least eaten.

If Fascination has been upgraded, my fiance and I might have to book a Summer 2011 vacation. We liked the ship!

A few suggestions for Fascination trip.

We had a suite 11 class on Veranda deck and loved it. Check out locations of all new balconies before you book. They have made some balconies on suites larger and added many more. Watch out for OB "obstructed views". These mean you will be pretty much looking into a lifeboat or metal railings, instead of the ocean!

Find out if the balcony has a sliding door. If not, you will need to bring a short bungee cord to hold the door open if you want it open.

If your room has a refrigerator in it, bring back any desserts you fall in love with from the buffet. We searched for repeats of our favorites and they never appeared again! We had wished that we had brought some back to the room!

I brought a waterproof waist fanny pack which I wore most of the time (especially whenever we left the ship). It kept all important re-entry papers, credit cards, cash, etc on my person and dry while in the water. We didn't have to leave any important stuff unattended on the beach or at poolside. Was also a benefit to have both hands free.
