bondscruisegal Posted August 13, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2008 We were on one of NCL's last cruises to Fanning Island in Feb. Mailed a stack of postcards from Fanning Island and almost 6 months later none of our postcards have been delivered. I'm just curious, has anyone else mailed postcards from Fanning Island and were they ever delivered?
Rare ohioNCLcruiser Posted August 13, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2008 I know about 6 months is normal. Don't give up completely yet!
cruiseman40 Posted August 19, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2008 That's funny. I mailed a postcard last yr. from Honolulu and my neighbor got it the same evening I got back from vacation. Of course it was the first day of my vacation when I sent it and arrived 10 days later.
Forever dreaming Posted August 24, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 24, 2008 Bondscruisegal, I posted 4 postcards from Fanning island in April 08. I think we were on Fanning on the 9th. The postcards were stamped on the 28th April and we received them late June/early July.( Sorry I didnt take notice of the date) Got 3 all in one day to different addresses and the last one the day after. We are in Adelaide - South Australia. It was a great talking point getting them so late after returning from holiday. Hope you'll be getting your postcards soon.:D Cheers, Fiona :)
bondscruisegal Posted August 25, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted August 25, 2008 Nice to hear you got your postcards. One of mine was sent to Australia and as of today (almost 6 months later) none have arrived including the one I sent to Australia. Maybe they'll show up one day, if not, it will always be a mystery wondering where they are.
skf Posted August 25, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2008 If they are just postcards, no problem...you can tell the intended recipients the story & they will believe you. Of course if it's a package of diamond jewelry.....
Sally Forth Posted August 25, 2008 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2008 Ours took more than 8 months to get from Fanning to Chicago and Toronto. I guess it just depends on when their mail boat arrives. I wonder how Fanning is doing without cruise pax? Viv
bondscruisegal Posted November 11, 2008 Author #8 Share Posted November 11, 2008 My postcards from Fanning Island have arrived. It only took 8 1/2 months. They were postmarked Kiribati on March 23rd, almost a month after we visited the island. I'd love to know the route they took to get to their final destinations. I often think of our visit to Fanning Island and the people we met there. It was a truly wonderful experience and I'm very glad that I had the opportunity to see it. CruisinMK Posted November 11, 2008 #9 Share Posted November 11, 2008 That's funny. I mailed a postcard last yr. from Honolulu and my neighbor got it the same evening I got back from vacation. Fanning Island is the opposite of Honolulu. It's not very different today than it would have been in 1700 :)
