Rome to FCO

Has anyone gone from Rome to FCO via taxi or private driver on a week day early morning, about 6:00 a.m. If so, how long did it take? We did it in October and it only took 30 min. but our driver is saying that it will take an hour. I really don't want to leave before 6:00 but I do want to give myself between 2 1/2 and 3 hours at the airport as FCO can be amazingly busy. Thanks for any information.
