Golden Princess Casino?

I read a review a while back from someone saying that on their cruise that the casino was closed, this was on an Alaskan cruise and on (I believe) on the Golden Princess. I know the casino's are closed while in port, but not the whole cruise. Please someone tell me this is not normal for an Alaskan cruise on this ship.

TIA

Tia, I am sure where the problem might be is that the ship must be so far from land before the casino can open up. So, hours could be either limited or quite late when sailing Alaska, depending on the time the ship leaves port.

Yes, the casino will open up, but I would watch the Princess Patter for these times as if the ship didn't leave port until evening, it would be another hour or two before they would be able to open up the casino onboard.

jcaviateur, I don't know if you will be coming back to this thread or not but if you do, will you tell me what the weather was like last week-end? I'm not crazy about all the rain but I hope that it will be cold.

I'm leaving for my cruise next Saturday, can't wait.

I was under the impression that the casinos are closed while in Alaskan waters (or maybe that's Hawaii?). In any case, it's not a cruise line decision - its the law of the waters they are sailing in. If it was up to the cruise line they'd have the casino open 24/7.

Suede,

I'm cruising on the Golden in early September and am watching the weather by going to weather.com to get the 10 day forecast in each port. You have to put in each port, but it's worth it to have the local forecast. Also, check the bridge cam on the Golden at Princess.com to see what the weather day is like currently.

Hey cmarshall9, thanks for the tip on the bridge cam, I will do this. I already have Weather Underground on my desk top for Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and also Seattle, I check this everyday, don't know if WU is any more accurate than Weather.com or not. From what I read, Alaska weather has a mind of it own.

Thanks for posting.

The Golden will be doing the LA to Hawaii itinerary starting this fall and as flamomo points out the Casino remains closed the entire time you are cruising in between ports in Hawaiian waters. Someone may have been referencing that in relation to the Golden in Hawaii on the thread you saw. We have been on two Alaska cruises, one of which was on Princess and on both the Casino was open as long as we were at sea, even when we were traveling between our Alaskan ports in Alaskan waters.

When we were on our Hawaii cruise last Christmas we ran into the Casino staff on several occasions while we were out exploring the ports. It was pretty nice for them as they got 5 consecutive days off.

Suede, the weather in Alaska on my cruise was low to mid 50's. We experienced no rain the entire cruise. Temperature was very comfortable as I, along with many others, were able to wear shorts. Of course, the previous week I had heard that it rained the entire cruise so things can change quite easily. This week it appears the temperature is even in the 60's. In Google, just type in the port name followed by weather (ex juneau weather).

One thing that I was disappointed in was the lack of glaciers that I could see from the ship. I did this same cruise 10 years ago and it seemed that there was so much more to see in terms of ice and glaciers and such. Could this be the result of global warming?

In regards to the casino, yeah, they were open while ship was sailing and closed while in port. Hope this helps!

jcaviateur.....it does help, thanks so much for letting me know this, here in Georgia, when in the 50's it's cold, add wind and it's really cold. You were lucky that you didn't get any rain, I'm sure you would have handled it well though. Global warming is scary to me.

The next few days are going to go so slow.
