oceanseagle12 Posted August 25, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 25, 2008 congrats! edit- i see when you are sailing now. I guess closer to date of departure is best chance of getting lower rates?

I had no idea before, this is new to me, I always used to book and never check any prices, lol. I think your right it might have something to do with the saliling date been close, it looks like they still have cabins available.
Cotton Posted August 26, 2008 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2008 Good for you, Terry!:) In all my Carnival cruises, I've not gotten OBC only twice. I check and re-check many times before the cruise to see if there's been price drops, etc. Yes, the closer to time for your cruise is the best time to find lower prices and get w/your PVP or TA about an OBC. The lowest I've ever gotten was $160pp. Gotta love those OBCs.

cruisingal0810 Posted August 28, 2008 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2008 just out of curiosity, if the price looks lower, would you just call up like you were booking new and if they give you a price lower then what you paid, do you then tell them that you already booked and ask for the lower rate and get an obc. I never knew that there was such a thing..
murcielago Posted August 28, 2008 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2008 Hello, Terry I guess its happening for september cruises. My Travel Agent called me today and told me that we were given $ 120.00 OBC. Originally we booked three cabins, two balconies and one inside for my parents. We paid for category 6b and got upgraded to the lido deck with my parents getting the upgrade to lido ( inside ) as well. After today's upgrade we got the $ 120.00 OBC and they got upped to Spa Deck ocean view ( floor to ceiling glass window )
mamasue Posted August 28, 2008 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2008 Good for you! We never get OBC because of the military rate. Never say never..... we're on the military rate too..... we've got 2 reductions so far, for our B2B in September!!

Terry305 Posted August 28, 2008 Author #12 Share Posted August 28, 2008 Well I guess the closer it gests to saliling date the biggest chance for Obc , is great, it looks like it might go down 10.00 , is not much but is something lol Does this price drops indicates that the cruise is not sold??? Jsme Posted August 28, 2008 #13 Share Posted August 28, 2008 I check my booked cruises daily for drops. You just never know. I have been given two price drops so far on 2 different cruises. Most of our cruises though have gone up from the time we booked. We tend to book so far out that it is important to keep a watch.
jmrothermel Posted August 28, 2008 #14 Share Posted August 28, 2008 So (because I am a total cruise virgin thus far) whats the best way to check pricing/eligibility for OBC? What are some ways that you can get OBC's? Sorry - Im not hijacking your thread :) Congrats for getting yours!
Rockportgirl Posted August 28, 2008 #15 Share Posted August 28, 2008 we sail in september but ours has gone up. I am always on the wrong side of a trend... You're not alone. My category went up almost $200 since we booked, and now it's sold out. I'm happy where I am, though, so no worries. :D
luv2croos Posted August 28, 2008 #16 Share Posted August 28, 2008 I tried to get OBC but my pvp told me I would have to pay the higher fuel charges. Was that the case with you?
kicia Posted August 29, 2008 #17 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Yes, you have to pay the current fuel charges if you change your booking. The last cruise a few months ago was not a good deal to go with the price drop because of the fuel charge. We just got an OBC for our 9/13/08 cruise because even with the increase in fuel charge the price drop offset that and we're still getting an $84 OBC. You just have to figure it out both ways to see which is the better deal.
laurenlou Posted August 29, 2008 #18 Share Posted August 29, 2008 So do you check online or call to see if there is a reduction in price? We are on the military rate, so its hard to see online if we could get on OBC.
Oompaland Posted August 29, 2008 #19 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Do you have to rebook complete booking or can you get OBC credit for your 3, 4 or 5th passengers? The rate for my mom and I didn't drop but the rate for my children did. After calling my PVP and she telling me "Yes, can get about a $50 OBC" I received an email that they could not do it without change my and my mom's reservation. Please help! We could of given up our room for one that carnvial choose, to get a obc... I said ty but i will keep the one i choose. I did not want to take the chance of not having a OV. Balcony would of been nice. But on the Holiday there are only a few of those.. So my luck i would of ended up with a inside cabin.. But I do have a 100.00 obc to the casino so i am not complaining.. GeekyMom Posted September 3, 2008 #21 Share Posted September 3, 2008 I don't remember ever getting an on-board credit either, but that won't stop me from checking. :D You September cruisers are fortunate in that way. Ok, don't flame me for asking, but has anyone out there got lucky in November, over Thanksgiving holiday? :p
mudpievelour Posted September 3, 2008 #22 Share Posted September 3, 2008 So do you check online or call to see if there is a reduction in price? We are on the military rate, so its hard to see online if we could get on OBC. Go to our favorite "fast food" online TA, and they will give out the current Military discounts on Carnival cruises. Then call Carnival and ask what the current Military discount is. If they agree, you have them!:D
Hurricane Girl Posted September 3, 2008 #23 Share Posted September 3, 2008 we sail in september but ours has gone up. I am always on the wrong side of a trend... We sail with you & ours has went down. I got a $200 OBC yesterday. I guess it depends on the Cat. you are in.
