Dining room for breakfast and lunch on explorer

:confused: if I decide to have lunch in the dr for breakfast or lunch, do I have to sit at the table I am assigned to for dinner, or can I choose any table? This may be a silly question, but I have only gone on NCL freestyle cruises... thanks..

Generally they put you with other people to fill up tables so its easier for the waiters.. but you will not sit at your assigned dinner table for brekkie & lunch.

You will be seated at whatever tables are empty to fill a section. You will be seated with others unless you tell them you want a private table.

You will be led to the next available table. Service is pretty fast, and it sure beats the buffet!

You can always ask for a smaller table if you want to dine more privately. We have done so for breakfast when we wanted to sit by ourselves (table for 2) or for lunch (table for 4). They are very accommodating.

I'm so glad you asked this quesion! I am traveling with a group of 40 & we have 4 different tables for dinner. My hubby & I are sitting with adults & our children are going to be at 2 different tables, it's nice to know we'll be able to have breakfast together!

You can sit wherever you choose. We always ask for a table for 2 and if they insist we sit at a larger table with others, and we do not want to, we simply say no we want a table for 2. Never have had a problem as there are always plenty of seats for these mealtimes. And the DR is so much more relaxed and pleasant vs. the Windjammer which is always noisy and crowded.

Most of us are hoping that your children are old enough to sit independently and not cause any extra traffic or disruptions if the children will be separated from the adults. Depending on their ages ( of the whole group) you may want to rethink that plan.JMHO

As I recall, the menu is the same every day for lunch similar to what they do on the breakfast menu. But, there is sometimes a pasta bar (not bad!) and there are some nice choices on the menu, sandwiches and such. I can't speak for this ship, but I'm sure it's pretty much the same fleet wide.

 

We avoid the buffet whenever possible and wish the dining room was open for lunch on port days. Of course, we've been known to pass through the buffet to pick up a couple of cookies :)

I took this as the children are adults. I wouldn't think parents would sit small unruly kids without them.

The day to day menu was similar with specials each day (these were also in the buffet). It was a more limited menu but the food seemed fresher. I had a hamburger and fries one day that were actually good. There was a pasta station. The lunch menus are posted outside the dining room each day it is open for lunch, so you can check it out ahead of time.

 

Compared to the Windjammer, the dining room is an oasis of tranquility at lunch time. I don't mind giving up zillions of food choices for the chance to be waited on in a relaxed and civilized manner.

Trust me, we aren't just sitting our children together to get rid of them. We are all great friends & it was just easier to put together 2 tables of couples, and then a table of boys, and one of the girls. The kids range in age from 18-8, my son being the youngest. He is happy that he's sitting with the big boys. These kids are together often and usually quite well behaved.

 

When it's time to put in our dining reservations (we were told to do this 45 days before sailing) we are going to ask that all 4 tables be as close as possible to one another so we can at least keep an eye on them.

there are about 3 menus they rotate in the diningroom for lunch. you will not regret it. before your meal they also bring out a basket of warm breads and a delicious olive spread as well as butter.
