We're going on the Pride of America in January. First time in Hawaii and first time on NCL in a very long time.

Any pointers on what to look forward to and what to avoid. We'll be getting to Honalulu 2 days in advance.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I have never sailed on NCL so can't help you there, but there is much to see in Honolulu. The last time we were there we had almost a full day so we rented a car and toured the entire island before catching our red eye flight back to California. Strongly suggest you make a stop at Pearl Harbor and take the tour to the USS Arizona. It is an experience you will never forget. The International Village is a great shopping experience and is basically across the street from "famous" Waikiki Beach. Try emailing the city web site and requesting information on all the things to see. You will probably wish you had more time if you have never been there before. Have a wonderful time!

Aloha! Come visit the Hawaii Ports of Call board here at CC. It's a wonderful community of helpful cruisers, frequent Hawaii visitors, and Hawaii residents who can help you a lot in your planning. Even just reading a couple of pages' worth of posts will give you a lot of information.

When you say "what to look forward to and what to avoid" I'm not sure what you mean? There are literally thousands of activities and excursions in Hawaii, ranging from sedate to very active. Are you asking about your 2 day pre-cruise stay in Honolulu, or do you mean overall for all four islands you will be visiting?

If you mean on Oahu, I think Pearl Harbor is a must-see. With 2 days prior to your cruise, that's also a good time to book a luau if you want to do one. We loved the North Shore of Oahu, and many people enjoy snorkeling at Hanauma Bay or climbing up Diamond Head. You can also do some great shopping on Oahu, and if one of your days there is a Sat., Sun., or Wed., you can visit the Aloha Bowl Swap Meet for amazing bargains.

Overall Volcanoes National Park on Hawaii (known as the "Big Island") was our number one highlight. We toured it via rental car and our only regret was not having more time to spend there.

Hope that helps a bit; if you can clarify a bit what you mean and maybe narrow down your interests I think folks will be more able to help you with good advice. Here's a link to the Hawaii board -- http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=62

Have a great cruise!
