Century- Italy 10 October

We're on the Century to Italy in October. Need help on Livorno / Rome. Tours don't seem that great and with so many 'ifs' that it is ridiculous. Has anyone hired a private guide from either Livorno or Civitavechia? We have been to both Rome and Florence so we are fine once we get there. Help would be appreciated.
