familycruzer Posted September 1, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2008 How far away from a Rutts Hut would I be in the Newark/Cape Liberty area? I might make a day trip to check on some ships leaving port and am interested in getting a world famous hot dog while in NJ.

signman Posted September 2, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2008 Why not make a whole day of it. The 5th Annual New Jersey Hot Dog Tour is Saturday, September 20th. http://roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10337&whichpage=23 Personally, I'm not wild about Rutts. dahammer Posted September 4, 2008 #7 Share Posted September 4, 2008 a few miles west of Newark is Charlie's Hot Dogs in Kenilworth, they serve an Italian hot dog that is deep fried and served in a half of a loaf of round Italian Bread with fried potatoes, onions and peppers....its worth the trip. Host Kewlguy Posted September 9, 2008 #11 Share Posted September 9, 2008 We live 15 minutes away from Rutt's Hutt. The food is ok, although overpriced. Can't imagine anyone making a special trip to eat there. The place is really a dump.
milleruszk Posted September 10, 2008 #12 Share Posted September 10, 2008 This thread really makes me realize that most people (me included) will travel really long distances to experience something that the locals don't appreciate. I have been to Rutts Hut maybe once in my life and I have lived within 20 miles of the place my entire life. How many New Yorkers have been to the top of the Eiffel tower but have never been to the top of the Empire State Building? Maybe I will have to go to Rutts Hut for lunch tomorrow.;)
Sheils65 Posted September 10, 2008 #13 Share Posted September 10, 2008 I looked at pics of the Hot Dogs and they really don't look appealing.......sorry to those who love them. I just don't think I would be interested in a deep fried hot dog.
