Bahamas holidays and store closings

I saw in my Bahamas vacation guide just received that 10/12 is considered a holiday in the Bahamas for which many stores and businesses are typically closed. Our MOS cruise will be there from 8-5 pm on that day. Originally we were not booking any specific excursion as we were just going to do some shopping on Bay Street and grab a bite to eat on Paradise Island and head back to ship. If it is true that most of the shops are closed that day, we may need to plan an alternative. Can someone confirm what the extent of this holiday has on store availability?

Thanks. Jan
