rhsgrad Posted September 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2008 I hate the cold winters here in the Northeast, so my sister (who fortunately lives in a warmer climate) has suggested we meet in January for a short warm-weather respite for me. I was thinking we might do one of the 3-or-4 day RCCL cruises to the Bahamas. The ports of call would be Nassau, the private island and Key West (if we do the 4-day cruise). Will it be warm enough during the 3rd week of January to go to the beach or comfortably sit by the pool on one of these cruises? [Yes, I'd love to take a longer cruise further south, but I can't leave my teenage son too long with my husband. There's got to be SOME parental supervision. :-) ]

Shelli Posted September 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2008 Some years back I cruised in January and the ports were Key West and Nassau. Key West was plenty hot-- it's hot there all year round-- but Nassau was a tad cooler. It was around 80, though, which is still warm enough to enjoy... without being overly hot, like it is in the summer.
vtoria98 Posted September 8, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2008 Being a native Floridian, I will not go in the water in jan in nassau ever again. It was freezing to me, however a friend I was with is from Michigan and she said the water was great. The overall weather was fantastic though, between 70-80 all day and sunny too, I had a great beach day buit I never did get farther than my big toe into the water. rhsgrad Posted September 10, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted September 10, 2008 Thanks to all for your input. Sounds like the Bahamas will be just fine for me, especially considering the weather I am likely to be leaving.
GMoney Posted September 10, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2008 I've been cold in Nassau in January for sure, without getting in the water. 65 (IIRC) and windy. Is it standard? Probably not. Can it happen? Yup. Does that matter? Only you can decide. :)
