Snoozeman Posted September 26, 2008 #201 Share Posted September 26, 2008 Thank you everyone!I did go home to start the cleanup on Wednesday. I'm still living in Austin as there is no hotel nearby and my place is uninhabitable. I have until tomorrow to remove anything I want to keep and the apartment's contractors come through to start gutting the place. I saved some high quality furniture and clothes. My washer and dryer that were 3 days old when we evacuated were completely toasted. Literally. We came so close to losing everything in a fire. Our surge suppressor for one of our computers caught fire and melted. I do have some pictures that I will post probably on Saturday. You can clearly see the line of cars. Some great news... The island is way ahead of schedule for recovery. Debris is moving very quickly out of the way and everything is running fairly smoothly. Thank you for all your support and I will keep posting updates as I get them! Thanks for the update & Good Luck.
TxGal Posted September 26, 2008 #202 Share Posted September 26, 2008 please send me the site of the parking lot B I hear they were damaged and and I hear they are not . I need answers please:confused: Here's a message that was posted last week on the Port of Galveston's website to all cruisers who left vehicles in Galveston: http://www.portofgalveston.com/news/HurricaneIke.shtml The second paragraph gives a pretty good assessment of the situation. Sorry to hear so many of you lost your vehicles.
pboedeker Posted September 28, 2008 #203 Share Posted September 28, 2008 We had a Ford F150 in Lot B during Hurricane Ike. We have been back to the lot and took pictures of the truck. The water level was to the sun visors! So I'm pretty sure any vehicle in that lot was totalled. Several insurers have been on the lot and have adjusted cars as they sit. Written on windshields are insurance company names, "total loss" and "To:Houston via Co-part". (Co-part hauls off totalled vehicles for insurance companies) Our insurer has "totalled" our vehicle and we expect to have the matter settled early next week. I missed it by a week then come home and a deer hits the Trailblazer. (Yes, deer hits car, not car hits deer) So I have a claim anyway. At least the adjusters seem to be on top of it down in Galveston.

Actually that happened a lot where I went to school in Upper Michigan. The deer freeze in the head lights and once the car is passing they bolt into the side of the car. My roommate hit a moose with in an Escort once -- car was totaled but Moose ran away!

Terry was driving and stopped because there was a dog in the road. Bam, deer hits her. Couldn't open the door. We are dropping it off Sunday on our way to Bayport & Conquest. I'm just not sure when to arrive. I read on the Bayport website that they have three VIP rooms. Hopefully CCL is using them so if I get there early I hope to have a chair.;)
browneyes7 Posted October 8, 2008 #209 Share Posted October 8, 2008 ???!!!!! Sorry, we can't put warm and fuzzy on top of our replies since it is just words on a screen. No one was bashing. Maybe we gave more of an explanation than you would have but darned if you do, darned if you don't. Now, we're at fault for offering too much info. I'm guessing that a lot of people aren't glued to the weather channel and news feeds from the Houston area and are not aware of the overall situation. They also may not be aware of what lies beyone the terminal and Harbor House. Additionally, we are all so used to instantaneous answers, that I don't think it hurts to remind people that in situations like this, the answers may take longer and will need to be prioritized. To the OP: I don't think anyone was bashing you but simply supplying additional info as to why we don't yet have an answer. I hope you are not quite as sensitive as CruizinMom2c is and take the responces as they were meant. I also guess I need to add to my original response that I'm not sure the reporters can get to the Port yet if they wanted to report on it. Last I had track, they were all holed up at the St Luis Resort on the Seawall. The port is on the other side and there was major flooding so they may not be able to get there. Carroll, Thanks for the info. I do appreciate any information I can get about Galveston. I pray for the people of Galveston and hope they can get their lives back to normal as soon as possible.
