Is there more than one train option from Baltimore to DC?

Is there more than one type of train between Baltimore and DC? If so, what are the differences? We will have luggage one way but not much.

I've partially answered my question but need more. It appears that MARC only runs in the mornings and late afternoons. What if you need something midday to DC and then back later in the evening?

Depending on your need for quick travel or not, there's a few options between Washington and Baltimore. Amtrak operates all day long, albeit at higher fares than MARC. You've also got Greyhound Lines, Peter Pan Bus Lines, and Capitol Trailways. For a slower, but much less expensive trip, you can use a combination of WMATA and MTA local transit services. From Washington use the Metro green line to the last station, Greenbelt. Transfer to WMATA express bus route B30 nonstop to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, and alight at the second bus stop (Terminal E). Transfer once more, this time to the MTA light rail line into Baltimore.

To answer your question further, only the MARC service from inner harbor runs

on rush hour schedule. MARC service from Penn Station in Bal runs hourly from early AM to approx 10PM. Penn station is approx 10-12 blocks from inner harbor. Also less than half the price of Amtrak. All MARC service M-F only.

If you are doing the trip Mon-Fri go for MARC service. It's cheaper and more of a local experience, as you will be with tons of commuters.

 

Amtrak can be pricey.
