In more practical terms, since ships change the way they dock all the time, heading south the sun will be on your balcony in the morning, heading back the sun will be on your balcony in the afternoon for a port side cabin, the opposite for starboard of course.

 

So base your decision on when you plan to use your balcony and whether or not you want sun on it. ;)
