Montmorency Falls

We're looking for an overnight pre-cruise in Quebec. Since one of our primary goals is fall color, and we love nature over history, I'm wondering if we might enjoy staying near Montmorency Falls (in Beauport). It would definitely be cheaper than staying in Quebec. Since our ship doesn't sail until 8:00 pm, we would still have a chance to walk around Old Town after boarding. Does anyone have any thoughts about this idea? How hard would it be to get around without a car?

We went to Montmorency Falls, Ile d'Orleans and St. Anne de Beaupre 4 years ago. This was an excursion on a cruise from New York to Montreal on the Regal Princess. As far as getting around without a car, we're not sure about the availability of public transportation in this part of Quebec. But our gut tells us that since this area is more semi-rural, it may be difficult to find it.

As far as places to stay, we remember seeing many small inns and B&B's on Ile d'Orleans, which is just across the bridge from Montmorency Falls. The island is very quaint, with many cottages.

Old town Quebec was truly memorable. We thoroughly enjoyed walking through the Place Royale and Rue de Petite Champlain in the lower town, then up the Funicular to the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac Hotel and upper town. Enjoy your cruise.
