mikedge Posted September 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2008 Can anyone please let me know the most efficient way to get from Rome airport to the port at Civitavecchia. It look to me like a 50 mile drive and is probably quite expensive.
GSPLover Posted September 29, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2008 The most economical way is to take the Leonardo Express from FCO to Rome Termini. From there take the train to Civitavecchia. There are no direct train connections from FCO to Civitavecchia. For an in-depth discussion, go to http://www.ftroute.com/fco_rom_civ.htm . Rare Hlitner Posted September 30, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2008 You asked for the most "efficient" and that would be by direct car or transfer bus. You can arrange, on line, for car transfers, but it can a be a little pricy. Using the train is pretty cheap (about 15 Euros per person) but it leaves you about 4 -5 blocks from the port entrance in Civatavecchia. You than need to walk those blocks to the port entrance (there is a free shuttle from the entrance to the ships) or try to find a taxi (not usually easy) who will want about 15 - 20 Euros for the short hop from station to ship. The problem with the trains is that its really out of the way to take the Leonardo Express (airport to Rome) and than the train from Rome to Civatavecchia. You lost time waiting for trains, and its quite a walk from train to train in Rome. Those trains will end up taking you at least 2 hours, whereas the drive from FCO to the port is only about 45- 60 minutes. Hank
catskier Posted September 30, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2008 Just returned last week, we took taxi from port to the city of Rome, It cost 200E, I will never complain about the cost of our cabs ever again. It was very easy and efficent.
KCcruisin07 Posted September 30, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2008 There are also transfers from the airport to the port. Rome Cabs has an excellent reputation for dependability and is competitively priced. Also if you go to your cruise Meet and Mingle section, you may be able to share expenses and meet some people on your cruise. On our cruise in April I believe some people who arrived the same day arranged for the ship's transfer.
