Dawn Balcony question

I was just upgraded to a balcony room on the 9th deck in the front part of the ship. I noticed in pictures that these balconies look more sheltered and not open and airy. More like walls around them instead of dividers. Can anyone shed any light on the subject? Are they good, bad, indifferent. I certainly won't complain as it was a no extra cost upgrade from an oceanview room but I'm just curious. It's a BC category and shows the balcony being 56 sq ft which are a little bigger than the others. Thanks.

Hi there. Oceanview to balcony? Nice upgrade! Of course it varies some depending on where you are, but we found Deck 9 a nice medium: most restaurants, spa, and pool are up two decks - casino, shops, atrium and other fun stuff down two decks. We were aft on deck 9 in a BB (and will be next year) as its a little calmer for my shakey sea legs :o , but alot of folks like forward. I don't know know that any of the balconies are really closed in, but we found ours very airy. If you check the deck plan, you'll see most forward cabins only have other cabins above and below (as opposed to a public spaces) so your cabin should also be quiet as well. Enjoy your cruise!

The first couple of balcony cabins after the owner's suite are in-hull balconies and a bit more closed in. Sort of like a huge open picture window.

We were in the owner's suite and the side balcony is the same way. You still get a breeze through there, but it is a little more sheltered. Which depending on the destination could be a plus. On our Canada/New England cruise it was more comfortable sitting out there than in the forward balcony.

Good point. If you know the BC you were upgraded to is this kind of balcony (look on NCLs deck layout and compare it the ship photos), maybe you can call NCL and and change to another BC...
