Towncar T Posted October 4, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2008 Here's a link to an excellent and very interesting attraction in Liverpool that we visited recently. It's only a short taxi ride (around £5) from the cruise terminal and is only £4 per head entrance fee. It's the Williamson Tunnels, built in the 19th century by a local philanthropist and now being renovated as a tourist attraction. kwcrnp Posted October 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 7, 2008 I looked at the website - looks interesting. Why did he build these tunnels? How long is the tour? Kristi
Towncar T Posted October 7, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted October 7, 2008 I looked at the website - looks interesting. Why did he build these tunnels? How long is the tour? Kristi The tour takes around 45 minutes, which leaves plenty of time to see the rest of the city, and you're only 5 minutes away from the centre. There's a small cafe and some interesting exhibits to see, so the whole visit could be about one and a half hours.Nobody is quite sure why he built the tunnels. He was something of an eccentric, but most people believe he did it to provide some sort of paid work for the local poor. I believe he was just a nutter who liked to dig holes!! Very Interesting though.:)
