Last time we sailed Alaska and docked in Vancouver we took a ship transfer to Seattle. It was one of the worse rides in my life!! So I am wondering if there is a ferry I could take if we do Alaska again? We need to go to Seattle to rent a car. Hertz wouldn't let me rent a car in Vancouver and go to Texas with it.

Unless something has changed with some new service, there is no ferry between Seattle and Vancouver. You can take QuickCoach, fly on Horizon, United Express, or Air Canada from Vancouver to Seatac, or take Amtrak. Other than that, not much choice.

You might also consider renting a car to go from Vancouver to Seattle and then making another car rental for your trip to Texas.

I can confirm that there is no water based link between Vancouver and Seattle. There is between Victoria and and Seattle, it is called the Victoria Clipper but it does necesitate going to Victoria which is pretty much a 4 hour trip in itself.....if all goes well. A huge number of cruisers do like the Amtrak conection which departs Vancouver for Seattle at 5:45 pm.
