Quick Questions

Take the infamous over-the-door thingie. It's a shoe holder but holds brush, sunscreen, film, stockings and anything else you can think of. Pack it full and when you get to unpacking just hang it up and loads of your things are already where you want them.

Roll clothes to prevent wrinkles. Also dry cleaning plastic fights wrinkles very well.

If small kids are going, roll up undies, socks, tshirt and shorts then all they have to do is grab the set.

A book to read by the pool. Large insulated cup for coffee in the am and drinks later on.

An ashtray is you smoke. They are hard to come by.

First aid supplies--bandaids, iodine.

Sewing kit.

Duct tape for hem or luggage emergencies.

Spray to rid of odors.

Lysol wipes to wipe doorknobs, remote phone etc.

Keep medicine in carry on.

Mix luggage--put 2 people's things in each bag so if one is lost you both have clothes.

Carry on bathing suit if you plan to swim before cabins open.

I saw your question about the cab versus shuttle. For more than one person, it's really cheaper for the cab ride to the port from the airport. If it's one person, the shuttle is a tiny bit cheaper. I don't remember Maho beach having a nude section. Hopefully someone else will jump in.

For food, I strongly recommend eating in the dining room each night. I always enjoy the food in the dining room a little bit more than the buffet on Lido. However, I almost always eat at the buffet for breakfast and lunch. I LOVE the omelet station on the Lido deck for breakfast. Yum Yum. I'm also a big bacon person and since you serve yourself, you can have as much as you like.:D

Oh, you are on the Valor. If I remember correctly, they have the seafood place on the second floor of the buffet. I don't remember the name but their fish & chips are some of the best I've ever had. They also have fritters that are to die for. Make sure you go there one day for lunch. I don't remember them having good desserts but you can run downstairs for that.

I hope you have a fabulous cruise.

a few extra hangars

I don't think you will need the bungee cord. The door usually stays open by its self.

portable laundry basket is also handy.

Downy wrinkle release works well unless you have a travel steamer.

You won't need as many clothes as you think you will so pack what you normally would and take out half.:)

XL ziploc comes in handy for wet things.

Pepto just in case:)

I always pack a set of ear plugs

sticky notes

don't need beach towels, they supply them.

we bring swim shoes.

Have a great time:D

I found a good packing list and some great suggestions on ***************. Customize it to fit your needs, of course, but I found it a nice place to start. I too was overwhelmed in thinking about packing for our first cruise in January 09.

Okay, they blocked that - it really wasn't an ad, honest. :o Anyway, you can find good lists at several sites, just search "cruise packing lists" - you'll end up getting the website I recommended above.

I have been to St. Martin twice, but neither time on a cruise. Are you talking about the Sunset Beach Bar? If so, there are always planes flying over it. It is quite an expericnce. It is not a nude beach, however there used to be a rule that "topless women drink for free" however I don't know if that is still the case. The sunset beach bar has a website so I'm sure you could look it up! Enjoy St. Martin!

Hi C Cruzer!! I can't wait either!

From what I read on the St. Maarten board Maco or Maho whatever it is called is not a nude beach. Orient Beach is.

I am planning on bringing some extra singles for the bartenders! I found on the Liberty if you tip over what goes on S&S you get stronger drinks!:D

Definately try to go to Scarlets. We are going the night we are in St. Thomas because we have an early dinner seating and it will be too rushed getting back from Paradise Point and I don't want to have to chug my bushwacker!

I went to Harry's on the Liberty and it was incredible. I had escargot and the best porterhouse steak I have ever eaten. My friend had the Lobster bisque and gave me a taste and it was the most wonderful thing I have ever had in my life! I am definately going to have it on this trip.

I did try the fish and chips and the fried calamari was awesome!

See you Sunday!

I read through this thread very fast so forgive me if someone listed this and I didnt see it.

I always bring my own lanyard from home. I know they have them on the ship, but they are expensive in the gift shop and the free ones from the casino are just worthless (to me anyway) They are the coil type and catch my hair.

And I loved the coil one because I was able to wrap it around my wrist.

I thought about the "over the door thingee", but I'm glad I didn't. IMO there's ample space in the room and bathroom to put things away. Of course there were only two of us, so it might make a difference if there's more then 2 adults in 1 room.

As for the bungee, you can always leave that at home and use the door stop.

The pop up hampers are wonderful and makes for an easy trip if you're going to do your own laundry.

-Highlighter pen to highlight things on the daily newsletter that you don't want to miss.

-Sticky notes (these came in handy for us last time communicating with our cabin Steward)

-Plastic Walmart type bags (good for damp or sandy clothes/shoes from the beach), kept my tote bag dry.

Also, we really over packed on our last cruise (which was actually our first cruise). Took home LOTS of things we never wore. Now i'd pack twice as many pairs of underwear (as we often showered more than once daily)and 1/2 as many regular clothes, let them do double duty if possible.

Here are some of the things on my "do not forget" list -

- My husband :D

- Funpass docs and passports

- Cash

- Camera and battery charger

- Sanitizing wipes (a must)

- Good book and/or MP3 player or iPod

- Cross word puzzle book

- Extra pair of contacts

- Folgers coffee bags for my first cup of coffee on the balcony (I didn't care much for room service coffee)

Enjoy your cruise. I'm on the same sailing!!

Good Tips From All, But I Didn't See Clothes Pins!! That Clothes Line In The Room Shower Is Great, But Bathing Suits Will Actually Dry Faster If You Hang Them By Clothes Pins Instead Of Hanging Them Over Doubled. I Also Leave As Many Of My Clothes On Hangers As I Can. It Makes Unpacking So Much Faster To Get On To More Important Things, Like My First Coctail On The Lido Deck!!! Of Course With These New Baggage Regulations That Most Of The Airlines Are Imposing, I Don't Know How Feasable That Will Be For Our Next Cruise In January, But I'm Sure Going To Try!!

Another Thing Is Bring Your Own Pepto Bismol!! If You Go To The Infirmary For Even The Slightest Of Stomach Ailments, You May Very Well Wind Up Sequestered To Your Room!! It Happened To My Mom And It Was Not Anything Contageous, Just The Lasagna On Board Didn't Agree With Her Delicate Tummy!! She Was Sequestered For 24 Hours And Almost Didn't Get To Make Her Excursion!! :(

Happy Sailiing!!! :)

Clothes pins also good for that much too friendly shower curtain - if you clip a few on the bottom it prevents the curtain from adhering to you while you shower!

You might also want a nightlight or flashlight for night trips to the washroom, a beach safe/waterproof wallet to keep your cash/cc card in while swimming, and I always bring a few different sizes of ziplock bags - various uses from packing liquids to brining home wet bathing suits or water shoes, snorkel/mask etc.

Have fun!

Ok...Have the Imodiam(just in case) and Off with deet(as St Maarten seems to have "Dengue" outbreak). I have not been able to find cloths-pins though, I'll look closer. I have all the others.

Whats the deal with the balcony doors...I always have it open, and don't need to keep AC on.:) It seems when I sail, it is always perfect nighttime weather!

Last, we are packing light, as now airlines have $15 charge per bag:eek: So less than 50LBS. per 1 bag seems the order of the day! We are using one large bag, and have to keep a tight watch on the bags weight! So what can we do without?

Keep on Pack'n

Thanks

Check out SAS Transportation for a shuttle to the POM. From FLL (which is further away) he only charges $15!!! You can't make a reservation on-line (doesn't work) but his e-mail address is there; send him an e-mail and he'll send a confirmation and directions. You can also call him if you'd like.

Here's the website: http://www.ridesas.com/html/reservations.html (click on e-mail us directly and you can do above)

As far as "Don't Miss" food recommendations, the Supper Club is always nice. In the dining room, I *loved* the fried shrimp appetizer with the spicy plum sauce "dip" (this is obviously not what it's called on the menu--lol) and the Tom Ka Gai soup, and the Greek salad.

Entrees--if you like beef, for us, the Chateaubriand was wonderful. There are too many to mention, but if I had to do it over again (and will in just about 3 weeks--HAHA) I would have the Sweet & Sour Shrimp for dinner the first night. It's the only night it is offered.

Just have fun--I know you will!
