Carry-on liquor?

I am sure this has been asked, but my search is not working right.

 

Does anyone have first hand experience with purchasing liquor while at San Juan strictly as a port stop, not embarkation point? I know that the carry on liquor policy is very relaxed when you sail from San Juan on Carnival, what about just stopping for the day? Do they allow you to keep it or do you have to hand it over?
