Travel from San Antonio to Galveston

We are going to stay in San Antonio before our Voyager cruise. How much time should we allow to travel from there to Galveston?

Time: Rough 3hrs to Houston and 1hr to Gal.

 

I-10 thru downtown Houston to 45 south.

Do not recommend during morning or afternoon/evening rush hour

OR

I-10 to Houston,

and when coming into Houston on westside,

the Beltway 8 (toll road) to right .....

cuts across to HW 45 South into Galveston.

Thanks,Galveston! Looks like we should allow 5 to 6 hours minimum. I like to have a cushion.:)
