Taxi or tour company

We are going to be in St. Croix Jan 20. What do most people do- take tour company or a taxi?

You can do an island tour, which will be by taxi. What are you interested in doing? Beaches? Historic sites? Snorkeling?

Any taxi (which will be a van) can take you on an island tour. A typical island tour will be to the historic Whim Plantation, the St. George Botanical Garden, the Cruzan Rum Factory and possibly a drive to the rain forest. All of these venues are on the Frederiksted side of the island where the ships dock. When you talk to the driver make sure that you understand if the tour price will include admission into the venues. Usually the price of the tour is only for the transportation. If you are interested in doing something else discuss this with the driver. Some visitors want to do their own thing and opt to visit Christiansted town, one of the beautiful beaches or go all the way east to Point Udall (the eastern most point in the US). This can also be accomodated but make sure you explain exactly what you want to do with your driver if you want something other than a regualr tour. Christiansted can be easily toured on your own, have your driver bring you to Christiansted. Stop at the National Park Visitors Center. They will give you a map of the historical buildings. The park people are a wealth of knowledge. Everything is within walking distance in Christiansted so you can visit the Fort, Scale House, shops, restaurants for lunch or island drinks. There are water sports offered downtown also. (Bring a cover up if you plan to beach as there are ordinaces prohibiting walking around downtown in only swimwear) A water taxi can take you to Hotel on the Cay which has a small beach. There will be taxis waiting to take you back to the ship whenever you want. If you are in C'sted stop by the Tradewindsshop where I work and say "hi"

Thanks for info. How much could we expect to pay for a taxi to Christiansted? What typical tour. Are there good tour companies you could prebook? Thanks

Frederiksted to Christiansted: 1 or 2 people $24.00; 3+ people $11 each; one way.

 

Tour: Sightseeing Tours: One to four people $100, five or more $20 each. Limited time of tour: 3 hours. Might include some combination of Botanical Gardens, Whim Plantation, Rum Factory, rain forest, northshore.

I am interested in touring the rum factory and spending time on a beach but can't find any tours that include a beach.

 

How far is the Cruzan from the ship dock - is it walkable from the ship?

When you get off the ship there are taxi tables set up. Approach them and tell them you want a brief island tour that includes a stop at the Rum Factory and ends at a beach. That shouldn't be a problem.

 

You can not walk to the Cruzan Rum Factory from the dock, its relatively close but not that close.
