jmraggs Posted November 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2008 We booked a New England cruise out of Boston next October 2009 on Jewel thinking it would be a nice cruise, but I have such a wonderful person telling me that I shouldn't have booked it because the seas will be very rough and the ship will be tossed around like crazy leaving out of Boston. We are use to cruising out of Miami and have been through some bad storms where the ship moved around a little, but nothing like falling out of bed. Are the seas that much rougher up there and the ships can't handle it, or is it just a hit or miss depending on fronts moving through?. Any info would be appreciated. wardbigpapa Posted November 14, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2008 We sailed out of Boston 4 years ago in Sept. and had no problems with rough seas. It was on the Maasdam, which is a smaller ship than the Jewel. Good luck and enjoy your cruise. John

From what I have read, it appears the Jewel this year encountered rough seas departing from Boston Also, I have a friend who had taken the same cruise a few years earlier and he said it was smooth sailing. jmraggs Posted November 14, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted November 14, 2008 Thanks for the replies, I figured it would be a "hit or miss" type of thing with the seas depending on storms coming through just like huricane season down here.
the2006Junket Posted November 30, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 30, 2008 JM, I live on Mass. Bay, just south of Boston in Hingham. October is mostly a lovely month...starting to get cool, but not too rainy and stormy. On the other hand, did you see the movie, "The Perfect Storm" or read the book...well, that was the end of October. So, it really depends on the weather and any storm fronts coming through. The good news is that those cruises don't go too far out to sea and there are plenty of safe ports to pull into along the way. Best of luck and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time! Lynne
