You must have been brilliant--even then!!!:) I even learned how to tie a bowtie on the internet, so I could help my husband tie his bowtie, but he didn't take my new skills seriously, and wore his pretied bowtie. I used an old vase as a neck and learned quite easily.:) Download How To Tie Instructions as Acrobat pdf - 148k

Now try it around your own neck, looking in a mirror. Not so easy, is it? They say it's like tying your laces, but I have always found it hard to get my head in my shoe.:p And as someone pointed out yesterday, I'm not sure where or who, it's not possible to lick one's elbow.

capnpugwash Posted November 15, 2008 #83 Share Posted November 15, 2008 Good morning Cap n, Is that a poem of your bowtie skills or GAri's--very nice poem--Capn:) Well thank you PM, I suggest you hit your husband with the vase :D
Cruachan Posted November 15, 2008 #84 Share Posted November 15, 2008 When I was young, and having fun Bow ties, of any kind, I’d shun I’d rather find a pub, by far And stand there propping up the bar And now I’m old, well past my prime I simply cannot find the time For knotting bows around my neck They’d only look a total wreck So give me pre-tied, they’re for me Simple to wear as ABC Just grasp the little hooky thing And hook it in the little ring And if I’m hot around the collar You can bet your bottom dollar (I know at this you’re going to scoff) I’ll simply take the damn thing off

The Real PM Posted November 15, 2008 #86 Share Posted November 15, 2008 Well thank you PM, I suggest you hit your husband with the vase :D Yes, you are right. After I spent all that time researching the bowtie and learning how to tie one, he didn't take me seriously, so right you are, Capn
gometros Posted November 15, 2008 #87 Share Posted November 15, 2008 I think you should wear a subtle tie. If you need to borrow a tie I have a few I can bring with me, just let me know which one(s). I have more if you need a bigger choice. Hey, what are you doing with my tie in your closet? (The computer cabinet one on top).
gometros Posted November 15, 2008 #88 Share Posted November 15, 2008 My excuse is that mine was a gift. I am generously giving you the benefit of assuming that you did not personally enter a novelty shop and purchase these ...THINGS ...yourself. Or did you skulk under the anonimity of the on-line purchase facility offered by your local circus outfitters?Gari Gari - admit it, you are just jealous

Hooky things and little ring Lord preserve us from these things New fangled they well may be But they are not for the likes of me The moves it takes to make the bows Are something that once one knows. SeaMatesNYC Posted November 15, 2008 #92 Share Posted November 15, 2008 When I was young, in Glee Club dear A pre-tied tie myself did wear. In tails with white tie we did sing Our collars natch, pique with wing. Post college, off to sea I sailed On cruises, formal nights regaled In tux quite fine, but still without A self-tied tie, my taste in doubt. In later years, post much debate The hook and eye’d no longer rate. From winged collar I soon fled To pleasing lines, the collar spread. So now I tie myself a bow On Cunard ships I proudly go With head held high, silk round my neck But really folks, who gives a feck!

The Real PM Posted November 15, 2008 #94 Share Posted November 15, 2008 Once we were to go on a cruise, So I checked out CC for the news, And the folks who seemed to know, Seemed to say we should tie our own bow. So to help my husband of years, Who had a great many fears, I went to a website 'bout ties, And learned to tie them on guys. So I took all the stuff from my vase, And practiced with ribbon and lace, Until the bowtie was just right, I could even adjust if too tight. So I showed my man my new skill And he gave me a glare just until He picked up the tie by my side, And said he'd be wearing pre-tied!
smoothdancer Posted November 15, 2008 #95 Share Posted November 15, 2008 I mean all kidding aside... That was a bit harsh gari... We leave for a QM2 cruise next week and I was just looking for a bit of information, but in the end figured it out on my own less I again find myself on the receving end of another tounge lashing again over a hobby I enjoy and also enjoy great conversations with fellow cruisers of which I have something in common with .... My semi formal choices are pretty close to formal and although Nick will bring his tux for formals I was just trying to figure out if in addition to a jacket for casual should he also plan a suit for semi formals. He prefers not to, not out of rebellion but ratherr he likes the look of coordinating jacket tie and pants for semi rather than a business suit. So Real PM after all this time You feel the need to turn to rhyme If your man did that to all your work From your duty do no shirk. Book a cruise to somewhere sunny Turn to your man for the money A thousand or two, three thousand quid Then leave him at home for what he did. When you’ve tried to be thoughtful such dismissal is awful thus lessons must be taught. None better, he’s stuck in port.

When you’ve tried to be thoughtful such dismissal is awful thus lessons must be taught. None better, he’s stuck in port. So, Capnpugwash, it's not so bad, His tie choice didn't make me mad. For without having to tie his great big bow, I had more time for me to go. And the pre-tied bowtie looked just fine, With the type of collar, it covered the shine, And on formal night we had such fun, And the next day we basked in the sun. I noticed though, the self-tied bow, Looked much nicer as ties go, And I feel you can really tell, Who has a flair for a look so swell. Next time I'll teach him to tie his tie Into a bow that is neat and high, Then he can feel good and be quite proud. He'll go in style and impress a crowd!
