What to do in Nassau 10am - 7:30am

I've never been to Nassau before so I want to find something to do.

Although I'd love going to Atlantis, I just cannot justify the cost of it this time. If my partner and our daughter were cruising with me maybe I'd feel differently about it.

I know I'll probably want to shop for a few hours when we get there. Then in the afternoon take my purchases back to the ship before heading back into Nassau for some night time fun.

Anyone know of any good bars for lots of fun, drinks and dancing?

Anything else you can think of that I may enjoy? I wouldn't be opposed to an all inclusive beach day. But if I go somewhere like that I like for there to be a larger crowd and lots of music and fun.

Anywhere specific you suggest grabbing lunch or dinner in port? Or should I just eat on the ship before heading back into town?

Any Nassau suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Lots of cruisers just go over to Atlantis to the casino and shops- just to look around.

All-inclusives can be fun (and expensive) -Wyndham Cable Beach is a good alternative.

There are plenty of places right near the pier for food and drink- you can walk up to Bay St. for shopping and stop at the British Colonial Hilton for a drink.

Atlantis is such a cliche....it doesn't really teach you anything about the culture of Nassau.

Go see the Pirates of Nassau Museum. It's about a 10-minute walk from the cruise terminal. I think we spent $36 for four people. It's a very nice museum and has a gift shop. They accept U.S. money and credit cards. At the museum you'll learn a little about the history of Nassau.

You can also go see the Ardastra Zoo and Gardens (AZG). It's about a 30-minute walk along a busy two-lane road from the pier if you don't stop to look around. It took us over an hour to get there because we stopped several times along the beach to collect shells.

AZG cost us $45 for two adults and two children. It's very peaceful and worth the money, but I agree with others who feel it's a little overpriced. I think the price would have been a little lower if we had paid cash. There is a nice snack shop there so you can buy refreshments before you leave. We were there on a Tuesday and practically had the place to ourselves. The employees were quite friendly and the flamingos roam freely throughout the zoo. I strongly recommend AZG but be aware it's a long walk from the pier.

There are a gazillion threads on this topic for the looking.... why not just spend a little time checking some of them out for personal experiences of others that have spent similar time in Nassau ?

You make a good point - there are 130 pages of threads on the Bahamas, each with about 40 threads. That means there are already over 5,200 threads on what to do in the Bahamas.

Because I've never been to Nassau and have no idea specifically what I should be searching for. And also because there may be people who have recently visited Nassau and have more updated opinions, options or suggestions. I did do a lot of searching before posting, btw, just didn't find any posts that answered my questions to my satisfaction

But thanx for giving me a painfully obvious suggestion

You really hit the nail on the head! History is an obsession of mine. I love going to new places and really trying to immerse myself in their culture and history.

The zoo also sounds like a great time, but since I'll be by myself I'm not sure I'll enjoy it as much as I would if my partner and daughter were with me.

Conch Fritters on Marlborough Street is a good place to kick back and have a cold beer or two along with a meal of conch. My favorite spot was the Queen's Staircase. There is a walking tour at http://travel.nytimes.com/frommers/travel/guides/caribbean-and-bermuda/the-bahamas/nassau/frm_nassau_0251010008.html You can use it to get some ideas of other things to see and do.

I did not mean to sound """snippy""" and apologize if it came across that way to you, but there are so many posts on the same topic within this forum (as the member "Sting Ray" agreed with me on but I guess you missed that post and decided I was just attacking you !). There is a member "scubagirrl" who has been so helpful to others that can give a real hands on opinion of the area that MANY have listened to within her posts. Perhaps check out anything she has posted and you will find what you are seeking !

Nope, I didn't think it sounded snippy at all. And I didn't mean for my reply to give you that notion. I always assume (bad idea I know lol) that everyone has the same kinda warped sense of humor I have.

Thanx for the heads up about the member. I really appreciate it!

That actually sounds perfect! Something I can do alone, something I can take my time doing, and see a little more than just the local shops.

Thanx a ton!
